I'm glad trump talked to the Taiwan president. Fuck em. This is like the Federation ignoring that the Klingons are an EMPIRE that enslaves entire worls in exchange for peace. Fuck em.
If he didn't pick up CNN would be all over it too - "Trump rejects phone call from Taiwan's president, shows weakening stance towards China"
Dump thread this motherfucker. Them slant eyes are a bunch a commies amd mericas gonna show em we ain't playin
Them slant eyes are married to us economically. They can screw with us much more easily than we them because of their central communist leadership. By TonyCohen - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=22679181
I don't like it tiptoeing around China more than you, but it's a bad idea to antagonize a powerful frenemy simply to grease the wheels for your hotel project.
You be friendly from the get go to Taiwan and create a bargaining chip out of mid air. You cash it in by giving it as a concession later on.
I don't mind the idea of abandoning the one-China policy. It bears no resemblance to universally acknowledged reality, and since Taiwan is much more free and democratic than it was during the Kuomintang days, recognizing its independence would be in keeping with our own national ideals. And the realpolitik that made sense in the 1970s might not make sense today, any more than the outdated Cuba embargo did. However, if we are going to abandon the one-China policy, I hope the president has some kind of plan for it and has actually thought it through, instead of just randomly doing whatever pops into his head.
I stacked gooks 8 feet high in Nam. Ain't afraid to bury my bayonet in the brains of General Tsao. Hes too chicken to fight me.
I dont think that possible with Trump. In the next 4 year we will learn why a business person does not make a good president.
Like Tafkats, I'm not bothered by the possible abandonment of one China policy. I'm also not bothered by changing the rules on India/Pakistan, though I think India needs to be our main partner in that region. The problem with these calls is definitely two-fold. Is there a change in Grand strategy, or is this just Trump not thinking further than two cocaine lines ahead of his nose? Is this Trump, the POTUS-Elect, or is it Trump, the real estate developer? On the first concern, he needs to convince us and the rest of the world that he has some method behind the seemingly static behavior. On the second, nobody will ever know the answer to that unless he disentangles himself from his business interests, and that's a huge problem.
