Bannon's statement is not untrue, tho. Most of the press self-identifies as democrat or liberal. Their bias is readily apparent. And they totally missed Trump's whole "thing."

Pretty certain that's a given. I recall all the way back in the 1980s something like 90% of members of the press voted for the Democratic candidate for president.

And that was back when the GOP was winning landslides across the country.

What has any of that got to do with the media "self-identifying" as liberal?

Opposing bullshit is not the opposition parties' job. Nor, usually, is it the media's. Trump has made allies out of both of them, because otherwise he'll say it's safe to breathe water and no fucker will point out he's a fucking liar.

    Everything is relative, of course.
I was weaned on American TV, and I've been following the US media my entire life. It's generally either beholden to Big Business (i.e. its advertisers, i.e. its customers) or owned by Big Business outright.

"Democrat"? Yeah, Democrat like Hillary. Beholden to Big Business. Y'know, like the Republican Party, say.

From outside the US, the Democrats don't look all that different from the Republicans --- Tweedele-Dum and Tweedle-Dee. They both worship (and serve) Wall Street.

The US media generally shows sickening reverence for the Establishment, of which Donald and his entire administration are prime representatives.

The US media -- with the odd exception like the Washington Post over Watergate -- has always toadied to the Royal Presidency. I watch the "news" on US TV and I wince in embarrassment on Americans' behalf.

Yes, Nixon used to complain about "the liberal press". Today we don't have any trouble seeing Evil Dick for what he was. How long will it take for Americans to see Donald for what he is?

Right, without all the attention lavished on him by this "opposition", that sorry fucker Donald wouldn't be in the White House.

I think Dayton is mistaking himself for America again, and thus you can drop the last couple of letters of your post.

Most of the big media are located in the big cities (NYC, L.A., etc...) so it isn't surprising they reflect the views common in the areas the live.

It does mean they are more liberal.

    Horse shit.

"The proposals, which strengthen or supplement existing laws addressing the blocking or obstructing of traffic, come in response to a string of high-profile highway closures and other actions..."

You have a right to protest but not to block the highway. Those shitbags get people killed because emergency vehicles also get blocked. Maybe if you were the guy having a heart attack but the ambulance couldn't get to you or the fire truck doesn't show up at your burning house then you would also finally give a shit about public safety.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) hit fellow lawmakers on Twitter Friday night, condemning those who don't speak up in opposition of Trump's new policy that will ban Syrian refugees.

"To my colleagues: don't ever again lecture me on American moral leadership if you chose to be silent today," Murphy tweeted alongside the famous photo of Alan Kurdi, the 3-year-old Syrian boy who drowned while fleeing with his family.

Fuck 'em. Virtually all of them are fake anyway. The tiny minority who are genuine can wait the 120 days for the new process to be put in place.

Newsflash Nono - not every Trump supporter agrees with everything Trump does. Just like not every Obama supporter agreed with everything he did. BTW a lot of "rednecks" are highly educated well traveled and make more money than you (not that making is money is important, just reminding you that you "aren't all that" yourself) which is a rough pill to swallow for a progressive, I know.

It's a mixture of anger and horror, and a big dose of "doesn't anyone remember the fucking 1930s?" despair.

Missing my point by a country mile, as ever. Which is that Donald's mere presence in Penn Ave sets all these ugly forces free.

Also, fella, did I ever say that all X supporters necessarily support every last one of X's whims???? Well?!!!

Meanwhile, a News Flash for You: In my lexicon, a "redneck" may be from Bumfuck, Alabama, but can equally be from Burlington, Vermont. Or indeed from the freaking Kerguelen Islands. Doan matter. It's anybody who's mean an' uncharitable an' hateful.

And naturally a redneck can be black or white, or whatever. Doan matter neither.

And I'm about to give you a big break here ---- You don't need to preach to me about decent Southerners. I've known my share and count some as friends.

Wasn't Jimmy Carter governor of Georgia?
And didn't even George Wallace admit in the end that he'd been wrong?

Here, by the way, is a sort of 'definition' of the anti-redneck by one of my favourite writers, Jan Morris:
"There are people everywhere who form a Fourth World, or a diaspora of their own. (...) They come in all colours. They can be Christians or Hindus or Muslims or Jews or pagans or atheists. They can be young or old, men or women, soldiers or pacifists, rich or poor. They may be patriots, but they are never chauvinists. They share with each other, across all nations, common values of humour and understanding. Among them you know you will not be mocked or resented, because they will not care about your race, your faith, your sex or your nationality, and they suffer fools if not gladly, at least sympathetically. They laugh easily. They are easily grateful. They are never mean. They are not inhibited by fashion, public opinion or political correctness. They are always in a minority, but they form a mighty nation, if they only knew it."

It's oldfella. You could use colored blocks and crayon drawings, and he'd still ask the same question once you finished explaining it. He doesn't want answers, he wants you to agree with him or drop it.

But hey, that's only what? 2/3s of the population that lives in urban areas?

Why should they have an equal voice in who leads the country?
