Rhodes did not serve as one of the NSC principals, while Trump apparently decided that it was more important to have the former editor of Breitbart as an NSC principal than the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. By contrast, George W. Bush specifically asked his chief political adviser, Karl Rove, to not ever attend NSC meetings. The current Trump apologist strategy of "let's find a case where Obama did something less, then act like that justifies Trump doing more, completely ignoring the cognitive dissonance involved in having objected to the former but not the latter" is pretty laughable.
