Note of future reference: Captain X cannot tell the difference between a flag lapel pin and a Russian tie.
And I can't help but notice how you and other Democrats seem to just conveniently forget about all the scandals Obama had, as in ones of actual substance, like the whole gun-running thing, the killing an American citizen without due process thing, the huge increase in the use of drone strikes and the number of conflicts we were involved in overseas, trying to pass Benghazi off on some amateur filmmaker, and the treatment of whistle-blowers just to name a few.
Everything I just mentioned above are things that are either actively advocated policy by Trump himself, have been implemented by Trump's administration, or is verified by the FBI. They are not even remotely the same as some made up birther bullshit. Seriously, if you think that is so, stop smoking whatever it is you're picking up off the ground. It can't be good for you.
I, of course, would argue we also abandoned wisdom for foolishness, with commercial platitudes and ego-stroking jingles taking the place of hard truths from the pulpit and conscience. And, not that popular culture was ever high-brow necessarily, but the crasser and cheaper it gets, the farther from "lofty ambitions" it gets, and that feeds into the culture just as sure as anti-intellectialism proper does.
More like a lot has been twisted by the media, and frankly given the FBI treatment of the Clinton campaign leading up to election day, I am rather surprised you put any stock in them. Well, not really considering how partisan you are.
I look at things as objectively as possible, checking my biases against available facts, and using logic to sort out the bullshit. It's not a perfect system, but my ultimate goal is to be correct, not just right. If that means finding out something I don't like, so be it. I am liberal, and while the Dems and I often have similar goals, I'm not a Democrat. Locking yourself in with one party is a foolish way to run things, because there are times where you're going to believe that party either goes to far, or doesn't go far enough. Weighing idealism with pragmatism is always dirty work, but partisan? No, not partisan. Definitely liberal, though. Liberal as fuck.
Sorry, lost me here. You've shown yourself to do the opposite of this just when it comes to gturner, let alone anything else. You've absolutely shown yourself to be more concerned with being seen as "right" than anything else. You are a great example of a smug elitist regressive leftist. If you have anything to do with identity politics, which are based entirely in bigotry and prejudice, you are not a liberal in any sense, other than perhaps you foolishly think your brand of authoritarianism is for peoples' own good.
Discussion based around sharing ideas between people is not a game. If that's not what you're trying to do, then why are you here? Why do you make the assertions, and then back away when it's your turn to answer?
Ah! The mirror of what I get - my liberal friends, who called anyone who wouldn't give Obama a chance racists, are now screeching how Trump will cause the end of the world (or at least WWIII), isn't "their" president, should step down for the good of the country, etc, etc...
My turn? What made you think that this was some kind of a game of quid pro quo? You were talking shit about how this stuff with Trump is totally not the same as the stuff with Obama, and I called you on it.
Are you going to stand by this chestnut? Have you not read the news? Is it all background noise? Donald Trump is an aberration, and a destructive force. If John Kasich, Mitt Romney, or John McCain had won the election, I would have grumbled a few days, and then gone on about my business. They are traditional Republicans who hold conservative views. Donald Trump is not a traditional Republican, does not hold conservative views, and has been shown, so far, to care not one whit about what rights he steps on. You're playing the old game of politics, @Forbin. This is no longer the old game of politics. Well, usually discussions involve two people talking to one another. If I knew you were engaging in soliloquy, I would have left you alone.
