I'm a couple hours in and this game is surprisingly good. It 's no ME2, the animations are a bit fucked and the eyes on more than a few of the characters make for some pretty potent nightmare fuel (especially Lady Ryder) but I'd recommend this to anyone who likes Sci-fi action rpgs and was a fan of all the busywork that Dragon Age: Inquisition threw at you.
It's good. Whoever thought giving Peebee 1) that name and 2) that eye makeup was a good idea needs shooting, though.
I'm mostly enjoying it. It has large virtues, and equally glaringly large faults. The graphic glitches I can live with. A lot of the interface and gameplay is just two or three months short of being great. The writing and storytelling is extremely uneven, but where it works, it works great. (Where it doesn't work for me is with too many too shallow characters, and a short-sightedness that has every alien including those from Andromeda intermittently speak with 21st-century allusions and slang.)
Liam annoys me. OK, you're fed up of roadblocks to getting shit done. But don't run around trying backdoor shit without giving me a heads-up! Has he forgotten humanity was getting short stick from the Council races until Shepard got made Spectre and started getting shit done? You wanna get the Angara to open up, you need to set an example, not try and get sneaky scans of their stuff or giving intel to their scouts! Also, I feel bad for siding with Gil over Kallo. Pragmatically, it was right, but he was so down about it The writing of their making-up was solid though Still really annoyed you can't romance Lexi. Especially after she got mopey in the bar after Peebee gave her shit. Did Natalie Dormer only agree to do the game if she was protected from the legions of horny GoT fans who want to see a CGI model based on her (but blue and with head tendrils) nekkid? 'Cos I'm pretty sure they can photoshop that shit - hell, most Asari in game reuse the same body models anyway.
No, it's based on the previous three Mass Effect games, only with a new central character/team and a plot revolving around colonising the Andromeda galaxy, hence the name.
Meh.... Still slogging through this. Some flashes of brilliance here and there, but I find most of it disjointed and a chore at times. I don't feel connected to any of these characters like I did in ME 2 & 3. There isn't one of them I connected to like I did Mordin Solus or Miranda Lawson. Even though this game had a 5 year production, it's like this needed more time... which is downright ridiculous.
Yeah. It turned out it didn't hold my interest. It is not the first AAA game I don't finish, far from it, but compared to the fevered rush of playing each previous ME, this one is weak.
The combat system was pretty fun, and the environments are gorgeous, but the story and the characters and pretty much everything else was just...ugh.
I finished it over the long weekend. Shot a bunch of aliens and saved the galaxy. - meh. Anyone tried the multiplayer?
Gotta try old republic and lord of the rings online Alphaman they excel at online gaming story telling. Lot ro has nice world building and environmental art.
Seems reception was so poor Bioware will not release the planned DLC (which would have focused on the Ark bringing the "minor" races like the Quarians, Elcor, Drell, Hanar and those little mole chaps) along and the issues they run into. Instead, there will be a novella telling that story for those who would die of blue balls if they didn't get closure. But for now Bioware considers ME a dead property, which is a damn shame.
The original trilogy and DLC has been remastered to 4K and will be available on May 14th for PC, Xbox One and PS4. If there's a positive enough reception, maybe my old post could be proven wrong, but I dunno. I'm bored as fuck and resolving it with booze isn't a good plan so I'll probably pick it up for something to while away a week or so.
