He's taking up residence in Tulare County, California, to challenge Devin Nunes, the GOP intelligence committee chairperson.

The California 22nd has a Cook PVI of R+10. Some years there isn't even a Democrat at all, and when he is opposed, Nunes gets about 70 percent. Takei would be a fundraising juggernaut, but with that kind of partisan split in the district, I don't know if any amount of money could overcome it.

Also, it is April 1 ...

A hyperliberal carpetbagger is going to unseat the local Latino incumbent in a county that hasn't voted for a Dem president since LBJ?

He announced on Twitter that he's not running.

What a helluva joke to play on his overwhelmingly liberal followers, though :brood:

On a serious note, I've always liked George Takei but I never took him seriously as the leader of anything. Not even when certain fans were trumpeting the idea of a "Captain Sulu of the Excelsior" idea after The Undiscovered Country.

Isn't he 80 years old? A bit long in the tooth for this.

yeah I don't see him having a long shelf life if he really is successful. Nice idea though.

Japanese ancestry, never smoked, drinks nothing stronger than tea, and was annoyed a few years ago when his doctor told him to cut his morning run down from six miles to four. He just might outlive us all.

In hindsight, if they'd done a Sulu show instead of Voyager and Enterprise, we'd be a lot better off.

I wanted a Captain Sulu series. I loved the Excelsior design ever since I first laid eyes on it.

Kyle was at the controls when the Enterprise blasted Vaal in "The Apple".

But Takei makes shitty dialogue fun, whereas Mulgrew and Bakula? Well, Bakula COULD in the Quantum Leap days, and Mulgrew learned by the time Orange is the New Black swung around, but Takei's consistent.

Hell, I still get his Futurama line "a full selection of rum, both spiced and ordinary" in my head every time I indulge my thirst for cane-based fermentory products,

Mulgrew has all but admitted she didn't give any fucks during Voyager, since she had the divorce she was going through at the time. The shitty ass material and backstage politics didn't help  ....

And Archer was so all over the map, he might as well have donned a red hat and been renamed Carmen Sandiego. I doubt a better character than Bakula could've done better than he did with the infamous gazelle speech.

Wasn't Bakula allowed to ad lib a fair amount of his lines in Quantum Leap in order to give his character's disorientation a more realistic feel?
