Am slowly learning how to utilize all aspects of my smart phone.

Now I'm trying to learn about the QR scanners. Only I find I need an app, and there are a lot, some free and some not.
So I am asking those of you who use them, which one is the best? Should I use a free app (with ads) or buy one?

    Are you iPhone or Android?

I'm on Android and use QR Droid; seems to work pretty well, but it's been a while since I "comparison-shopped." Really, I'd go to the app store, and find a highly-rated free one. A quick check shows a number of highly-rated free apps at the Google Play Store.

I used the first free one that popped up when I searched for one on Google Play.

It works well for what I needed it for.

If you are on Android, I recommend Google Goggles. It's a one-stop app for all kinds of optical recognition, does QR codes well, and integrates with the rest of the system.

I had one on my old phone but my current one is a cheap piece of shit and can barely run apps. Seriously, it runs out of memory and causes things like messenger to crash due to low memory.

Before I just used some free one but didn't even use it much because it kept prompting for a payment if I wanted to comparison shop.

Thanks for information. Think I can make a decision now.

In China I use a messenger-based omni-app called WeChat for QR scanning, both Apple and Android.
