My first apartment in college had raccoons around the place pretty often. I walked by to see other college kids feeding them and all but playing with the little trash pandas. I wanted nothing to do with that or the horse needles I'd receive if I got bitten or scratched.
I love raccoons. I had one as a pet when I was a little kid. If we didn't live in the city I'd get another one.
Foxes and coyotes are every where. Those guys actually increase in population in urban areas. Seriously, go for a walk around sun down near any open space where there is a creek or fresh water and you will see them.
When I lived in Santa Barbara the student housing area was right next to a slough and open space preserve. There was a young fox who would make the rounds as s/he figured out people would feed her/him. S/he got so tame she would take food right out of people's extended hands.
