There are no native lobsters in WA which really sucks. Spiny lobsters only go as far north as Monterey county. I hear in the 1940's they tossed whole train loads of Maine lobsters into Puget sound hoping to start a local population but the Maine lobsters won't enter breeding mod unless water conditions are just right and they never get that in the NE Pacific so those lobsters never bred. I wonder if European lobsters from Norway could be imported and released to help solve WA lack of wild caught lobsters. Personally, I am all for introducing nonnative species as long as they are economically useful. Yes, some are bad and get out of control so you just avoid those ones and concentrate on other ones. Mo' money.
Even when I was stuck out in Imperial county, which is all desert, there were irrigation canals to fish in. You just pulled over to the side of the road, made a few casts, and sometimes you would catch some surprisingly large fish.
