It looks like even god hates Texas. https://www.google.com/amp/s/weathe...rvey-forecast-gulf-coast-texas-louisiana.html So what do people think? Will it be worse than predicted, less than predicted, will people heed the evacuation calls ahead of time or wait until they are SOL to try to get out of flood zones? What are your predictions?
If so much as a chicken coop falls over, we'll get a fresh round of "is global warming making hurricanes stronger?"
This hurricane was extremely unusual in that it formed in a single day. It literally did not exist yesterday where as normally storms take a while to build. Yes, much warmer waters are why that happened.
According to Salon, Trump has already failed to deal with this hurricane. I expect them to call for impeachment if it makes landfall.
is Kanye West going to revise "Donald Trump doesn't like Black people!" once again? Maybe not, I think he's a supporter. Regardless, hopefully Harvey won't be too bad.
Looks like they are already making excuses for raising gas prices. I predict they starve some area of gas so they can get four or five dears a gallon like they did a few years back in the Carolinas.
Well we did have a member on wordforge IIRC who routinely liked to slam President Bush by talking about Hurricane Katrina and saying "a major city was all but destroyed in Bush's watch". As if President Bush could do anything about a hurricane. IIRC, President Obama was the only president who promised or implied he would lower the rising sea levels.
I don't know who you are referring to, but the common complaint isn't that a major city was all but destroyed during Bush's term. Rather, it was his poor response in helping out after the destruction. Do you really have such a short memory span that you cannot remember that?
The "poor response" was largely overstated. I read an analysis about a year later that AT WORST there was a 24 hour delay in providing federal emergency relief to the New Orleans area and there is no evidence that anyone died due to any relief delays. Remember that the claims about rape, murder, and mayhem supposedly occurring in the Super Dome were also vastly overstated.
Bush could have done a lot, I mean a LOT, more starting with hiring people with actual emergency management experience and actually sending aid and making funding available in a timely manner instwad of a week later. But, I guess putting a horse breeder whose only qualification was that he was a Bush fund raiser in charge of FEMA was ok by you. Even Bush eventually fired him for incompetence.
Isn't it a bit intolerant not to consider the hurricane's point of view? Seems to me both sides are to blame.
Would you care to list in detail say "three" things FEMA could've done differently that would've made any difference on the ground in New Orleans? never mind, found them https://www.cato.org/blog/hurricane-katrina-remembering-federal-failures
I lived a thousand miles away from New Orleans and I knew way before it even hit that it was going to be a huge disaster days beforehand. They were pretty sure about that one and were saying get the fuck out. FEMA should have been staged and ready to come in the moment they could because we knew there was going to be destruction in it's wake.It was neither a surprise or a mystery.
One of my liberal cat-lady friends is already blaming Trump - apparently he hasn't chosen a FEMA head yet? So "more people will die due to Trump's arrogance" or some such BS.
She went over board but, yes, it is a fair critique to think Trump should have got odf his ass and actually interviewed and named people to posts by 8 months in. Apparently that gets in the way of watching Fox 8 hours a day though and taking constant golf trips.
He has - Brock Long was confirmed by the Senate in June. And surprisingly, on paper he actually seems qualified to do the job.
named after Steve Harvey - so watch out! The dude has like a dozen jobs between radio and television. With that work ethic the hurricane could hang around for days, flooding an entire region.
I think they were talking about HHS which is the agency FEMA is under and who makes all the major funding decisions.
No no, it's named after the rabbit. Therefore this hurricane doesn't exist in reality and can be safely written off as fake news
