Conner barely even guarded himself second half of the fight. At least he got the whole way through the fight without getting disqualified. That was an achievement in itself. I thought if mayweather hurt him reflex/impulse may have dragged his knees/elbows into the fight. Connor is that you?
I couldn't afford it, but hats off to Conor! 10 fucking rounds in your first time boxing professionally against one of boxing's greatest? Damn actual experienced pro boxers have done much, much worse. Fellow MMA fighters are all supportive in their comments, as you should be. Conor wishes the fight could have lasted longer, but boxing isn't MMA - a boxing referee will stop a fight when one fighter starts to dominate too much - safety I guess. MMA never stops a fight even if someone is getting rag-dolled unless the bleeding is unstoppable (doctor stoppage). Realiostically Conor had 10 rounds to demonstrate his abilities - if he was stumbling his performance wouldn't have improved at that point. So everybody wins! Floyd gets a perfect 50-0 record, Conor shows the world he can indeed fight very well even in another sport, boxing fans might gain interest in MMA, MMA fans might gain interest in boxing, Vegas gambling bookies don't go bankrupt, and nobody got hurt.
Very well indeed! If he gave up MMA and boxed exclusively he would do as well as anybody. He's always took pride in being a "martial artist" willing top learn new things and try new things all across the fighting spectrum. That said he's terrible at fighting on the ground, so wrestling or Jiu Jitsu would be a tough nut to crack, but hey I wouldn't put it past him!
couldn't see the video - content blocked. As for saying it's a "joke fight" I beg to differ. Conor fought very well for his pro boxing debut - many people were surprised at just how long he lasted. Off topic a little, but would a pro boxer even make it through one round of MMA? Now that would be a joke fight, as well as dangerous for the boxer as all get out. Granted no pro boxer would be motivated to do this (more blood, less money? No thanks!) but the point is while it was a very unorthodox situation and both fighters now have swollen wallets, it was indeed a legitimate fight.
Its a bullshit fight only to generate money and over half the fight connor never even had a guard. Was a stupid miss match and never should have ever haplened.
Conor put up a better fight than many of Floyd's past opponents - hardly that big a mismatch. If it were a mismatch the ref would have stopped it much sooner - boxing refs stop fights all the time, or sometimes a corner will even throw in the towel if their fighter is getting their ass handed to them. What made me laugh was one article said when the fight ended Conor was badly bloodied. Badly bloodied? Maybe by boxing standards, not UFC standards of bloody.
no not at all. I'm just saying if even the Showtime boxing commentators (I just watched the fight on you tube BTW) were pleasantly surprised at how competitive Conor fought, it wasn't that much of a mismatch as many people thought it would be. That said I think the ref made the right decision - Conor would never have gotten his energy back at that point. Credit to Floyd's strategy though! He said in the post-fight interview that Conor only fights 25 minutes at most, so eight three-minute boxing rounds would be his limit of stamina. Both men showed much class! The commentators made some inaccurate remarks about MMA (referring to Conor and so on) but I can't expect them to know everything about the sport.
All im saying was its not a fair fight. A boxing champion undefeated in 49 pro fights vs a Mixed Martial Artist who trained solidly on bixing for 9months if he did as well as you think and in comparrison to his prior fights then all i can say is mayweather must have fought a lot of chumps in his carear, i have nithing against mcgregor as a sports man i just think it was unfair against mcgregor, where the situatiin reversed mcgregor would have anihalated MW. Good day sir..

Don't really know anything about this, but anyone--pro, amateur, whatever--who goes 10 rounds against a 49-0 champion boxer has my respect. I'm sure lots of other professional fighters fared far, far worse.
nobody can learn boxing well enough in 9 months to beat the best boxer (in their weight class) in the world. As for not being fair Conor was the one who wanted to box - so Conor has to abide by the rules of boxing. He knew what he was getting into, he boxed as a teen. Yes if the situation were reversed any boxer would be taken down and choked out within the first round of an MMA fight. But Floyd wasn't trying to fight Conor in MMA - Connor was trying to box Floyd. He did better than many expected, including Floyd. Now that the experiment is over, Conor needs to get back to the UFC and defend his belt or relinquish it - he's holding up the division/careers.
My point exactly! Conor fought better than more experienced boxers and Conor had never even fought professionally until last night. Floyd did him a huge favor by agreeing to this fight. It's opened up more doors for Conor. Granted this makes it that much harder to ever shut Conor's mouth, but no power on earth can do that. Floyd ends his career by helping a fighter in the prime of theirs - this worked out great for everyone.
