    ?

Wouldn't it be a lot easier to simply stop issuing building permits for coastal regions?

The response to that would be people claiming that the government is depriving them of the right to live where they want. Additionally, the people who live in those areas would be unable to get permits to rebuild or remodel their homes, thus depriving them of one of their largest investments.

No. Especially since you already have tens if not hundreds of trillions of existing investments there. We are specifically speaking about flood defense projects.

it's still raining there! It's a "worst case" scenario - the storm hanging around and dumping rain.

If we're going to have to abandon "hundreds of trillions of existing investment" anyway due to sea levels rising, why not start now?

On the upside it might indicate the drought is over.

    Meanwhile...

Our local SBDR team has been activated. They're leaving in the morning to provide no cost laundry services, no cost shower/bathing facilities, no cost meals, and trained water rescue teams. I just wish I could go.

Not to defend the guy but the church parking underground is flooded. So at some point there was a significant amount of water in the area. We are only seeing pictures of one time period. It may have been too dangerous because of the flood waters in the area to come to the church.

I like Osteen for some reason. He reminds me of Little Finger, but I like him anyway. I don't get it either.

As far as the mega church, it is located south east by one of the bayous. With the dams open and flowing south, it was a possibility. I've been around there with less total rain falling, and seen that area under water.

    I'm kinda the same.

The first time I met him was at work. I was using one of the urinals when this guy in a suit comes in to use the one next to it. I paid him no mind until he says, "Good morning! How are you today? :D"

He was there to do an interview segment on our morning newscast. :flow:

Osteen is many things. He's a fantastic motivational speaker. He's charismatic and charming. He's an excellent businessman. However, what he is not is a preacher of the Gospel. Joel, if you're coming to Jesus for money, He's not your God. Money is.

    http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/08/29/a-storm-made-in-washington-215549

It raises some good questions which Dayton touched on earlier. 2% of the properities covered by flood insurance cost about 40% of the total costs. Half of those properties are in Houston and all of them are known as repeat lose properties.

Now part of that is geography but another part of that is piss poor flood control design by the city and county.

And yet, a mattress store nearby was high and dry and being used for an emergency shelter.

The only correct response to this, "Well, until I realized I was going to have to kill a motherfucker for breaking the Men's Room Code, just fine. You?"

If it's the one I've been hearing about, the owner had his stores built specifically to be flood proof so they can double as shelters.
