I feel bad and all because this is just horrible. However it would appear that this is another area where the shooter was hitting the heart of the NRA. This is what they seem to be for. If you have a large general part of the population owning firearms occasionally someone is going to use them in a bad way. Now imagine if this crazy dude attacked the church people with a machete, or a bat. Would we be looking at twenty seven dead people and more injured?
Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 for two counts of assault on his spouse and assault on their child, Stefanek said. He received a bad conduct discharge and confinement for 12 months. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/devin-...therland-springs-first-baptist-church-latest/ So it's not a dishonorable discharge and since he wasn't sentenced to more than 12 months once he got out of the military he could own guns. Perhaps the domestic violence laws should be extended to military personnel as well.
http://cnn.it/2zkM7Wm He served 12 months for assault on his spouse and child. He was given a bad conduct discharge.
He sounds like an asshole, but if he was mentally ill I wish he had gotten the treatment he obviously needed desperately.
Yes. I've been dealing with insurance for the church lately. Every provider, including our current provider, requires that we have a written Emergency Plan as part of our Policy and Procedure Manual with a section that specifically addresses an Active Shooter. Any church, or any other community organization, that doesn't have a plan in place to address something like this is naive or foolish.
That is very ridiculous considering I can outrun three quarters of typical high school football players.
I assume on this mythical planet it's only because the football players have two bad feet compared to your one?
and that 12 months should count as a felony on the outside and the USAF should have reported him. However under Federal Law, even a misdemeanor conviction of domestic violence puts you on the prohibited list. See 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9) for more information. Again, did the USAF update the feds?
Because its true. Sure I can only do it once (40 yards) and then have to rest for a while, but I can do it. It's a thing I used to humiliate my players by showing that the "old, fat, white guy can outrun them". Its an unforgettable lesson.
some news reports suggest that his mother-in-law went to this church. Still waiting for confirmation on that. She does have a PO Box in town.
or another option - god himself struck the shooter dead with a (miraculous) bolt of lightening. Granted god could have done this about 16 victims prior, but didn't want it to look like obvious divine intervention, because then he'd have to do it all the time for everyone - he's got enough on his plate!
beat me to it! I read an article recently that god can't reveal himself in a worldwide easy to understand scientifically testable, provable manner because then god's existence would not be a matter off faith for his believers! In other words nobody has to have faith to believe in gravity. Faith is certainty in what those without faith would consider uncertainty. And by default what is uncertain cannot of course be proved or replicated on demand - thus the faithful never have to prove god's existence or intervention because if those without faith can see god (or his work) it can't really be godly. God always has to be one step beyond what the unbelievers can see and the believers cannot (unless they interpret correctly through faith). It's a bullet-proof (no pun intended) business model.
Gee, it is almost like a universal background check and requiring all gun sales (including second hand) to go through a licensed dealer would have helped here, huh?
