I really wish outlets like this would come up with compatible shows, maybe even "same universe" the way Netflix marvel shows are, that they could rotate so that you're not waiting more than 3-4 months for one or the other to come back
well yeah but that just nudges the script point I'm complaining about a bit. She could have just said "Sarek..." and let him choose.
Na, it makes sense that he'd go for someone he had a lower personal connection with. Less chance of stirring an emotional influence in him because he wants her to be genuine.
I really liked this episode and the show is really coming into its own now. I see the Klingons are basically ISIS, which is fine by me. Glad to see Admiral Girlfriend is back and I love the way it ended. The only thing I’m slightly nit picky about is Sarek. Sarek was always cold towards Spock, but warm towards Michael?
because you are not checking just for loyalty but to see who these people are. Choosing the one you know the most about allows you the greatest possibility of identifying an imposter.
the semi-addressed that earlier in the season. Sarek made a bad bargain to get Spock into the Science Academy and then, as we know, he went Starfleet anyway which is why he was on the outs with Spock in JtB
Really? This coming from the bitch who told me that I should kill myself in my Introduction post? Go fuck off.
If Michael ends up meeting some horrible fate as a result of her joining Starfleet, it'll go a long way towards justifying his grudge.
I assume next week is a reset episode where all the events of th show never took place. I mean, blow of Qunos? No. Basically lose the war? Get conquered? Nope. Never happened. Time to spore time travel.
As soon as they mentioned the NX-01, the first words out of my mouth were, "GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, DISCOVERY... YOU WERE DOING SO WELL!!! WHY THE FUCK DID YOU HAVE TO MENTION THAT TRAINWRECK OF A FUCKING SHOW?!?!?!?!?" Not joking. P.S. - Fuck Enterprise and anyone who likes that piece of shit show.
A couple of my favorite movies have decidedly conservative messages on display. Zack Snyder’s 300 and Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight showcase some pretty conservative messages and no one batted an eye.
Hollywood and TV need to STFU with their fucking politics!!! ....unless it's Chuck Norris, or Kevin Sorbo making Jesus movies, or Sabrina The Teenage Witch making sequels to Kevin Sorbo's Jesus movies, or.... And we'll give Clint Eastwood a mulligan for making "Million Dollar Baby", pro euthanasia cuz "Dirty Harry", was so awesome.
I honestly don't mind it. I like fictions that challenge my assumptions and ideas sometimes. Show me a different perspective. Remember Juno?
And that's fine, it's just the whole "shut up and sing!", narrative from the propaganda ministry is dishonest as fuck.
Not a great episode. It seemed to be covering a lot of bases and setting the scene. And I don't like how this version of Sarek is so understanding of humans. It's too much.
Sarek wouldn't be a good Ambassador if he didn't understand humans. We've only seen him previously in situations where his son is involved or he was compromised by illness, both scenarios that caused him to be more "Vulcan dickweed" than he might actually be... after all, Amanda musta had her reasons...
Horseshit. I was merely presenting a theory that could be a bit of a mind twist, if correct. In all of Trek there has never been mention of an all-out war with the Klingons, just Cold War-like tensions and squabbling over territory. There has certainly been no mention of the Klingons kicking the Federation's ass and taking up to 32% of Federation territory. Not to mention the fact that we've never heard of a spore drive. I feel the producers are playing with us. They say that Discovery is set in the Prime universe, yet even Jason Isaacs admitted he's been lying all this time about what to expect from Lorca. I wouldn't put it past the producers to mislead us with half-truths. They mentioned on the show how there are an infinite amount of universes with different possibilities. The producers have also said that next season we will see more of a return to traditional Trek stories and exploration. It is my theory that Discovery is set in an Alternate Universe that is not the Kelvin or the Mirror Universe. I predict that they will wrap of the Klingon War story arc by having the Discovery jump into another alternate universe that turns out to be the Prime universe we all know. That would solve a lot of the story contradictions, and also open the door for Jason Isaacs to return as Lorca. Just something to think about.
I thought Ben Cross did a fine job, as Sarek, in the JJ films. It was nice to see Sarek being disarmingly diplomatic.
I agreed with your overall post, but strictly speaking in ST:TNGs "The Enemy" Riker says to Worf "Think of how many people died in that war" (referring to hatreds between the Klingons and Federation). And in "Hide and Q", Q says to Riker regarding the Klingons "Speaks something of why you defeated them".
Overall, I enjoyed the season finale. We got the Enterprise fanwank for the cliffhanger, and some story arcs were resolved. The "placing MU Georgiou in command" was still profoundly stupid, IMO. And we moved from a fake "flawed captain trying to do the right thing" deception to a full on TNG smug and sanctimonious speech at the end. Seriously, were the Medals of Honor given the other officers literally just less-than-a-one-liner-each for Commander "Virtue Signal" Mary Sue Burnham's self-congratulatory spiel? So instead of genocide they decided to do some neo-con nation building with the Klingons instead. Yay. /sarc SMG on After Trek said that an important part of her story arc was that she was always right (Mary Sue) but that her mistake in the pilot was that she didn't get consensus and group-think going. And they were celebrating that L'Rell was now the dictator of the Klingon Empire, literally holding their lives in her hand. I guess for the SJW Discovery crowd, "consensus" is the most important thing -- even if it is a "consensus" formed by "you will all submit to me or I will kill you." And Tyler goes to live with the Klingons. I guess we'll have another explanation for the human looking TOS ones coming up next season connected to that in some way.
