Did you guys know that the main character in Falling Down isn't supposed to be a 100% relatable straightforward hero? I seriously didn't know that until about a year ago. I also refer to it as "the best Dilbert movie" in my head.
This is what happens when you mentally tune out what black people are saying. I mean, the black cop even tells him "Yeah, duh! You're the bad guy!!"
Sure, other people didn't agree with Dilbert, but that was half the point. He was a regular middle class white guy worn down by the frustrations of modern life until he snapped and became an avenging angel of justice. But seriously, I as a teenager did not understand that Dilbert was insane and not the good guy. I imagine a lot of people still don't. *I also didn't realize as a kid that the Sixth Doctor was a terrible person who was borderline abusive towards Peri. My child brain just thought it was okay to be a dick to people if you're smarter than they are.
Well, Six is a dick to pretty much everyone, I don't think he singled her out. If you take the Big Finish stuff as canon, he might have been pulling a Twelve (or Twelve was pulling a Six) and trying to make it easier for her to disassociate him from an incarnation she was romantically interested in (Twelve's act didn't actually work with Clara though). If you don't, then he could be suffering resentment at having to "die" to save a human he'd really only just met, because of the bleeding heart nature of Five. Not that I think ANY Doctor would really let a companion die if they had a say in it.
He is certainly relatable to the right wing who probably jerk off to this film right after fight club every night.
Right wing dorks have completely misinterpreted and embraced them, though. Kind of like how Robin Hood is arguably right wing because he was fighting government taxation, but lefties hold him up as a socialist hero.
Let us see, white middle age profesional victim goes off smashing foreign owners store, killing hispanic gang members, shooting up places for not kissing his lilly white ass, mad because he has to live with his mom, hates the poor, loves his guns, gets to shoot rocket launcher, stalks his wife because she had the nerve to divorce him, and hangs out with nazis but is supposedly not one despite them loving him. No nothing right wing about any of that, except everything. Fight club is just their masturbatory fantasy about taking back their lives by punching each other in the face because they would love to have the courage to get into a fight. They may not be intended to spread a right wing message, but it is not like the right is unable to ignore huge glaring contradictions in their mentality.
you guys do tend to dress and act alike. Don't blame the messenger for your lack of variety and desire to lock step with people like you.
Hey, can you explain why this offends you but the endless shit said around here about minorities doesn't? ASKING FOR A FRIEND
Although it eventually rejects the quasi-anarchist alternative offered, Fight Club is for the most part an anti-capitalist tirade. It's the least right right-wing movie out there. I can believe that people are stupid, but I also think you're full of shit. So please point me to some right-wingers getting an ideological fix from it. Falling Down is about middle-class alienation. It's not racist or pro-gun, nor does the main character "hang out with Nazis".
