I know the preliminary buzz hasn't been that great but I expect other people to be there.

Decent to good. The guy does a good job being Solo. As with all these new Starwars, its at least half an hour too long. The twist/shock at the end is intriging as it hints at depth that was never shown before.

The twist isn’t really one if you keep up with the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows.

Although I am surprised the writers of Solo know or care about those shows. Especially since The Last Jedi ignored so much of what was setup in The Force Awakens. I didn’t think the new Lucasfilm cared much about continuity.

As for this movie... ehh... it was ok. Every once in a while the dude playing Solo sort of reminded me of Harrison Ford but overall it felt like a different character. Maybe the age would explain that.

Probably not a movie I’ll watch again but at least it didn’t bother me like parts of Last Jedi did.

Moves along nicely and tells a Han Solo origin story that fits my expectations.

Ehrenreich totally works as Han, and he does it without really doing a Harrison Ford impression. Glover nails Lando. Both of these guys create believable younger versions of the characters we know.

Woody Harrelson's Beckett is the likeable rogue, a sorta proto-Han, who teaches Han the ropes of the outlaw business. He's solid in the role. Emilia Clarke is fine as Qi'ra, the girl from Han's past who influences his present. Lando's droid L3 is another enjoyable droid along the lines of K2SO.

Most of the points you know about Han's life are checked. From Corellia? Check. Was in the Imperial service? Check. Met Chewbacca? Check. Made the Kessel Run? Check. Won the Falcon from Lando? Check. It all fits. I even liked the origin of his name.

My biggest gripes? It's solid and checks all the boxes, but it only soars sporadically. Much of the plot is just linear, one action sequence after another, with little complication.

And, oh, my, the fan service! There are a lot of callbacks to earlier films. My favorite was a disguise Beckett wears in one sequence. Musta kept that one in a closet on the Falcon.

Yes, there is a twist; you'll probably see it coming. And, yes, there is a big surprise that prefigures a sequel, albeit one that will need to be skillfully written to avoid contradictions with established lore.

I enjoyed this film. It worked for me and adequately scratched my Star Wars itch. I welcome a sequel. 7/10.

Iv got no issue with Lando being pan, hetero, homo, A or whatever sexual.

But, for me im not sure what it did if anything for the story other than allow a joke about the guy having lots of capes. Im not sure what the whole point is other than to service some idea of political correctness or inclusivity.
