http://amp.miamiherald.com/news/local/immigration/article214844345.html An interesting question which I would like to hear responses to. The Trump administration has taken measures to block citizenship for green card or visa holder who cannot support themselves and who seek access to welfare or food stamps. They still get to stay but cannot get citizenship though in some cases they could be deported such as if they commit fraud. I would point out that green card holders already can be deported if they commit a crime so the real change is blocking them from naturalization. Should we be importing poverty and rewarding people with citizenship who take public money?
I'm "on the fence" about this because the US has so many home-grown people who abuse the various systems. IMO many of those are not productive citizens, but technically they are indeed citizens, productivity aside. So here are the factors (whether legitimate or manufactured) that might complicate the basic question: 1. most of the people affected are "brown" so most on the left will focus on that and jump full-force on an opportunity to jump on Trump (great Doctor Seuss book title BTW) 2. most countries give priority and preference/deference to their native born population by default, and as such would never consider deporting their own natives for abusing assistance programs. Where would they send them anyway? So in a way it's "low hanging fruit" to talk about denying citizenship to immigrants because they are the only people that have another place of origin in which to send them. 3. if you choose to come to the US it is most likely from a financial/logistical/physical security choice. The US is the closest "safe" location for anyone south of the US border. Given that limiting choice, you are indeed at the mercy of the laws & policies currently in place or future laws & policies and must assume that risk. "NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY" so to speak if you want to swim in our pool.
What if their kids cure cancer? Inherent with the assumption that they'll never contribute is the racism of "they're human cockroaches that'll never be useful for 50 generations!! ". The right is in such a goddamned furious hurry to throw people in the rubbish.
"Is it ok to deny citizenship to green card holders who cannot support themselves?" No. As I've said before, for some reason, we have this twisted idea that wealth equals worth. It is a shortsighted and foolish notion that will eventually lead to a dearth of intelligence, and a surfeit of a useless class here in the United States.
What if that baby you aborted would've cured cancer? The left is in such a furious hurry to throw people in the garbage.
No. Because the second someone is naturalised they will have access to public money anyway. If they are a permanent resident then their future is in the US. All you will potentially achieve is driving legal permanent residents onto the streets. Dinner asks if the US should “import poverty”. His mind doesn’t consider that in many cases these people will have work some or all of their lives in the US before claiming welfare because they have been made redundant or have fallen on hard times in respect of ill health. If a permanent resident, for instance, is forced onto welfare because of a disability, should that person be denied the chance to be an American even though he wants to live his future life in the US and could well be married to an American? The answer is no. It’s u duly harsh. I’m sure Dinner is fine though with whatever mechanisms Trump can come up with to stick to the brown people...
The obvious solution is to find @Dinner a nice little island somewhere so he can live all by himself. He can order his cuisine from someplace on the mainland and have it airlifted to him once a week, with a guarantee that it was prepared only by white, English-speaking, non-Muslims. He can even have WiFi, though with child-proof controls to bleep out words such as "filthy" and "animals."
I'm pretty sure I heard about this months ago. What's really infuriating isithat the guidelines make it clear that a person earning minimum wage in most places "cannot support themselves," even working 40 hours a week. If that's not proof minimum wage needs to be raised, then I don't know what is.
No. To me it seems that citizenship and economic self sufficiency are entirely separate and unrelated issues.
To answer the OP, no. My ex-mother-in-law (too many hyphens) is a permanent resident and green card holder, she can’t support herself without help from my ex, I wouldn’t deny her citizenship. I’m more concerned about illegal immigrants.
That is largely my position too though I did see this move by the administration as an interesting discussion to have here at Wordforge. An attempt (much like my thread about fixing America's broken political system) to bring back real discussion here at Wordforge.
https://www.google.com/amp/www.sand...d-me-government-fraud-20180713-story,amp.html The sad thing is fraud cases like this happen every day and usually they never get caught or it takes decades before they are caught.
Actually, no, the OP asked a question about the new Trump administration's policies towards green card holds who commit various felonies. You will also notice I came out against the new policies. It sure would be nice if people learned to read around here.
It doesn't matter if wealth equals worth. What matters is that wealth does equal self-sufficiency, and that goes directly toward whether an individual will be a burden on other people who are supposedly free. Of course, we don't all value freedom the same, do we? Fuck those proles, they can pay for all the immigrants we can bus in, eh?
What if the cute for cancer lies with a child whose mother was slut shamed though her entire pregnancy, then spent the kid's childhood scraping by and the kid ends up falling behind in school, eventually turning to crime and getting a life sentence behind some pot? Ass.
I dunno. When did every other post of your become about hating a different group of brown people? Eat ass.
