Surprised there's no thread on this, so thought i'd make one, seeing as the movie will be out in a few weeks. (October 5th) Here's the official trailer. Kind of interested in seeing how they take Spider-Man out of the Spider-Man universe. My speculation is now that the web-head is under Disney's employ that Venom is going to be the stand-in for Spidey. A little disappointed that Sony backed out on going hard R, but if they are starting a franchise it's understandable. I also don't think they could pull a hard R movie off. I'm a huge Spider-Man and Venom fan, so I'm hoping this either does well enough to justify at least a continuation and expansion for the spider-verse, giving time for Sony to iron-out some of the weird rights voodoo going on, or that it goes so bad that the whole franchise can be snapped up by the mouse.
We've had posts on this, so I think there is a thread somewhere. Might be buried in the MCU thread. Anyhoo, this trailer makes me a little more interested, but I'm still not really feeling it.

I finally saw this last night. To my surprise, I enjoyed Venom a great deal. The plot was forgettable, the villain worse than the villain in Ant-Man. and Michelle Williams largely wasted as a Pepper Potts wanna-be. However, Tom Hardy's loony yet sympathetic performance, and his buddy-cop relationship with the Venom symbiote, won me over. Venom is so powerful that I found myself wondering how in the world Spiderman could ever defeat him in a straight-up fight. That said, I hope they bring Spiderman into the mix for the sequel. Carnage is cool and all, but they'be already done Venom vs. evil symbiote.
There's another thread going on this somewhere, but I'll add here that I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It's not The Dark Knight, but it's a reasonably serviceable comic book movie. I'd rank it about on par with Marvel's original Ant-Man.
It was better than I expected. I'm still unconvinced they can do a sinister six movie without spider man.

I’ve seen a lot of....um, interesting fan art for Eddie/Venon online and it dethroned Voltron’s Lance and Keith as Tumblr’s new favorite slash pairing. For that blessing alone, I will pay for a copy of this film once it comes to Google Play.
