The people Ford named as having been at that particular party have given written statements under oath. All of them say it didn't happen. One of them, Ford's friend, says she doesn't even know Kavanaugh.

There is no physical evidence. Ford can't even remember what house it happened it so we can't test her memory of the layout of the house. She can't remember the exact year. She can't even remember how she got home. She now says someone must have driven her home but she can't remember who. That person would be critically important because they could corroborate her story. At least the part that there was a party.

So explain what else do you think is there to investigate? What can the FBI possibly do to investigate this beyond taking the statements of those alleged to have been at the party?

If we go by her therapists notes the attack took place in her late teens, not when she was 15, which means it couldn't be Kavanaugh because he was at Yale. If we go by her therapists notes she was attacked by four boys. In both cases she says the therapist wrote down the notes incorrectly. Yet Ford refuses to releases all the notes or who the therapist was so they could be asked about it. Ford's lawyers say handing over the notes would be an unacceptable invasion of privacy. You make a serious accusation, use parts of notes from your therapy and than refuse to hand those notes over? As a lawyer would you accept someone doing something like that if they were accusing a client of yours?

We now know that the 2nd front door on the house isn't so much about her as it is about renting that part of the house out. We now have an allegation that she coached someone on passing polygraph tests which means she lied during her testimony that she had never coached or been coached on polygraph tests. On top of that she gave the Senate committee the polygraph test and she was only asked two questions. Polygraph tests don't work like that. Two questions isn't enough.

Ford's credibility gets worse as time goes on.

So why am I supposed to believe Ford at this point?

I dunno who taught you the meaning of words, but that in no way, shape or form constitutes an investigation. That's a series of witness statements. If the cops made an arrest based on that, they should be laughed out of court.

And you may have a point regarding the credibility of Ford's statement. The investigation has already shown some irregularities regarding Kavanaugh's, though. So let's see what happens once all the evidence is in, hmm?

There is no physical evidence. The location of the alleged crime isn't known. Even the year is not 100% clear. No cell phones at that time so there is no location data or phone call data.

This forum was originally set up as a reaction to heavier rules at Trekbbs's TNZ that some felt were restricting debate. So there was always a reluctance to ban people as it flew in the few of the basis for the community.

Having said that, I do think there are times when owners should have been more ready to ban people, or at least follow a pattern of warnings. Things like racism or other bigotry or obvious, persistent content that is little more than trolling are things that should attract warnings IMO.

I get that, but I'm also not convinced it's working. There's a middle ground where intelligent people (of which there are clearly many here) can debate freely without tolerating people who are simply abusing that freedom to behave in a pathetic juvenile manner. If anything I have to say debate is effectively stifled here to at least the same degree as in TNZ (if not more so to be perfectly honest) by the infantile behaviour of a really high profile vocal minority who seemingly treat the staff and those debating in good faith with such contempt they've achieved an almost legendary minor celebrity status throughout neighbouring forums.

Dayton's almost a cult figure in our little expanded corner of the internet because he's been allowed to get away with treating you all with utter and open contempt for so long, yet people are still questioning the staff here about what he did wrong. It's genuinely difficult to imagine anyone being a more complete caricature of the concept of nasty, belligerent and zero contribution internet troll but he's regarded by some almost as a folk hero.

I'd rather not derail this thread by talking about Dayton yet again, but suffice it to say that a lot of us, me included, were so incredulous at the stupidity of his posts that we took sympathy on him. This was reinforced by his atrocious career record, of which you are aware, and so I think there was doubt for a long time that he was just a troll, but also a very stupid, deluded man and therefore earned a certain amount of sympathy for the way he seemed to be bumbling through life with one car crash after another.

This is why i opened the thread about him. This way discussion about him can go in there. You have a legitimate point. Don't think people are not reading that thread.

I will say I came in with reservations about the group dynamic here and the personalities and the people here so argue in good faith and a bit rough. You really have to fuck up to get banned.

That does mean you are going to have to take some shit. For the most part I think people here listen and try to have others understand certain parts of themselves. You have to watch out for the purely destructive element that can harm discussion.

Labeling you (in all seriousness) a "drug addled tranny whore" wasn't the rough and tumble of debate, it was abuse. I was offended on your behalf and felt I had to speak up. I can give and take more than most (so far I've crossed swords with one person in here who I think might give me a hard time in a serious debate, there are a few others who've thus far been on the same side of the fence), but that debate becomes eroded when people just resort to the lowest of insults if they have nothing better available.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, IGNORE is your friend. Start banning people for speech and you wind up with TNZ, a place that was once vibrant with debate that is now nothing more than a support group for lefties.

There's nothing stopping you from using the button if you don't want to see their speech. Or do like me, simply laugh inside and don't respond. It drives them nuts.

There's a lot of hate in here towards TNZ, which is a shame because at the moment the level of debate in there is really rather high. I'm not disparaging this place, far from it, I'm merely commenting there's a lot of genuine wasted potential with the quality debate between the intelligent, well meaning members being consistently hampered by a few grown adults feeling free to be juvenile. As for Tererun, that does indeed sound awful, but I can't comment on what I haven't seen. What I have screams out one very singular picture that there are a lot of really decent people in here being dragged down because the rules are seen as toothless and the freedom to debate robustly (which I applaud) is seen as the freedom to sit on a branch throwing poo at the zoo keepers.

One, in particular, started out fairly ordinary, but after a couple of years or so, took to posting massive meth-fueled screeds which were almost incomprehensible. The result of which would be people abandoning threads en masse, simply because it was too difficult to wade through these tirades to get to posts by people who were capable of making coherent comments. Despite having been banned a number of years ago, he still tries to sneak back in fairly regularly.
