As for over-reacting if you live in a relatively violent crime-free neighborhood (I don't think Tucker lives in shitty place) the police generally have the available manpower and are bored of busting jaywalkers so they come in full force. If the cops knew it was Tucker's house even more would have showed up. So yeah, there were plenty of witnesses both civilian & cops to get down to what really happened.

Tucker now has a big old all-you-can-eat buffet of EGG ON HIS FACE! What do I preach and try to practice? Calm the fuck down and get all the facts before you start talking. You're upset? Fair enough because you thought your family was in danger based on what they told you. But I have a wife & a daughter - if I went overboard every time I took what they said in an upset & scared emotional state as gospel I'd look foolish and unstable myself - and doing this on a public platform would really be the worst. Lesson learned for Carlson? Hopefully for him.
I'm not a lawyer but maybe this is why "eye witness" accounts of a traumatic unexpected incident are all over the map! Ten people see ten different versions of what happened. I'm going with the police on this one who have zero skin in the game other than doing their normal jobs.
