Ed and I weren't close, but we'd known each other all our lives, went to school together, and had airplane modeling as a shared interest. Ed had type 1 full-blown diabetes since he was 9. Over the years he's had two pancreas transplants, one kidney transplant, 7 strokes, one heart attack, neuropathy of the lower extremities, a broken leg that took a year to heal, and a toe amputated. He'd gotten frail and talked very slow and carefully. At this late stage in life, we'd talk every few months on the phone to catch up, or run into each other at a local model club meet. He'd tell me what horrifying medical issue he'd had since the last time, and I'd always be amazed that he was still alive. The guy was made of iron, it seemed.

So after surviving 50-some years of complications from diabeetus, some fucking idiot ran him over in a Shop Rite parking lot and dragged him 12 feet. Then she ran him over again trying to back up off of him.

    That just ain't fair.

He held on in the hospital for a whole month. But the body finally gave out.

    :salute:

    Wow, that woman sucks ass.

So she really backed over him again?

Shouldn't that be jail time and you are never allowed to drive again?

That's rough. Forget "death catches up with a friend". Sounds more like death did a figure 8 over his body and then spiked the ball.

:salute: damn if he doesn't deserve some kind of medal for being one tough SOB to even survive all of that. But as for backing over him to seal the deal she could have panicked or was trying to dislodge him. I think you would have to prove malicious intent versus just negligence in the accident.

Yeah, when she was dragging him, his son was banging on her car yelling "get off my father!" - so I guess that's what she was trying to do.
The charges against her are all relating to having an accident. No mention of vehicular homicide. :/

Sounds like the kind of guy who, at the pearly gates when St Peter asks who he is, will respond "Who's askin'? with a defiant lift of his chin. Sorry for your loss, brother.

I'm picturing her reversing in a panic having realised what was happening which, whilst fucking awful, is understandable. People often act very irrationally in circumstances of extreme stress.

    Horrible.

I hope the woman gets charged with vehicular manslaughter. Hitting someone accidentally is one thing, dragging him for 12 fucking feet after hit him, then running him over not once but twice is criminal negligence and rhat is what manslaughter is for.

And two weeks later, his 89-year-old mother passed away.
His brothers and sister are having a hell of a month.
