Port Richey Mayor arrested for attempted murder for firing at SWAT team serving warrant at his home PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Port Richey Mayor Dale Massad is charged with attempted murder after shooting at a Pasco County SWAT team Thursday morning. “I used to be up in the DC area. They had Marion Barry up there. This is Port Richey’s version. An individual that you wouldn’t believe should be in office and this is what happened," said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco. “He shot at our members. He’s lucky he’s not dead.” Massad has been charged with attempted murder. Caj Jospeh calls Dale Massad her hero, but says her boyfriend was scared when a SWAT team shot through the front door before dawn. “I ran into the closet because I was scared. I thought we were getting killed. I thought somebody was coming into to murder us or something," she said. She says they didn’t know it was law enforcement. Massad was upstairs when he fired his gun while the deputies were still outside. “Don’t you think if he shot at the officers, they would have killed him?” Friday, Massad’s attorney told a Pasco County judge the shots were not premeditated, but the judge still denied the mayor a chance to bond out of jail. At City Hall, the reorganization of the government is still going on. “The city managers still in charge of the city. And I believe somebody on the city council will temporarily take the seat of the mayor," said Police Chief Gerald DeCanio. Reminds me back when I worked at Walmart and there was an African American man died in the Howard County jail. Some months later there was a considerable uproar with states civil rights leaders flying in. A tragedy of course. But then many of these leaders claimed that something like a dozen African American men had died in the custody of local law enforcement over the last two years. Shocking. But when the newspaper broke down the claims it was pointed out that most of those dozen were not even in Howard Country when they died. Several had been transferred to state custody in Little Rock and other places long before they died. Obviously it was impossible than any of our LEOs had hurt them or abused them resulting in their deaths. Another African American man was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy during a struggle. What hadn't been mentioned was that the African American man had just beaten a reserve officer so badly that the officer was in a coma for months. I kept track of this one because the reserve officers full time job was owner of a local radio station where one of my best friends worked. Also he was a friend of my dads.
