My leg pain turned out to be deep vein thrombosis (thank fuck I went to get a sick note). I'm on anti-coagulants as of today, but just in case it's already too late, I thought I'd get things off to a good start:

How does someone your age get DVT? :wtf: Hope they got it in time. And if you're on anticoagulants, try not to bump into things. You can end up with some nasty bruises.

I'm gonna leak like a Russian prince!

    Too soon?

Friday the 2nd, I tore a calf muscle. I originally thought it was a cramp and not a tear, so I spent Saturday and Sunday stretching it and tearing it even more. That's when it started getting painful to even sit up, which is what I finally went to the doctor about yesterday. :clyde:

Don’t know how young he is or isn’t. However. Take a long drive without getting out of car or off motorcycle for more than two hours. Plane trips sitting for the entire flight. Crossing legs. Standing and not flexing.

I just read about a young healthy guy in Alberta that died of this exact thing a couple months ago. He broke his foot, then developed a pain in his lower leg that kept spreading. The doctors didn't even consider a blood clot until he was dead.

Of course, since my pain didn't spread, I ruled out the possibility entirely. Cuz I'm so smart, you see.

If I hadn't wanted to skip work today, I'd be a time bomb.

I'm going to google deep vein thrombosis - it sounds pretty bad!
    Okay I googled it.....DAMN! :soma:
I bet truck drivers are very susceptible to this. Regardless I'm going to start standing up as much as possible at work from now on. And if I ever get a muscle cramp under any circumstances I'll be on guard and get it checked out. Wow!

A similar thing just recently happened with me. I got my toe stuck in my shorts while getting undressed and lost my balance and fell down. I do not know where my toe went, but it went somewhere it was not supposed to. It swelled up some, but I did not realize I needed to worry about an infection inside my toe so I waited for the swelling to go down. Needless to say the swelling did not go down and the nail started oozing, and I do not think I damaged the nail or kicked the floor, but who knows. Now I am on a bunch of antibiotics and the infection had spread up my leg without me knowing because I thought swelling would only be natural if I wrenched something.

Now that you mention it I might go down to the doctors tomorrow and ask for some blood thinners. I am still able to move around and walk pretty easily and there is little pain because of my neuropathy, but clots may be an issue. I keep the foot elevated a lot and massage and try to keep moving it in general. It is actually getting a lot better.

Glad you caught it. My mum had to deal with the same thing a few years back after a flight. Since susceptibility can be hereditary it means I now wear the sexy pressure socks when flying.

If I am reading it right it says something NSFW about forbin and the 14th doctor's relationship. I would need to refer this to someone more proficient in baba speak.

That does not help the translation. Could you phrase the statement in some form of english derivative or perhaps some other language someone on the board speaks?

"Greater tentacle monster then forbin 14th doctor is." could be a typo meaning "Greater tentacle monster than Forbin, 14th doctor is" could be Yodaspeak like "strong, the force is". Or it could again be Yodaspeak meaning he was is in the delivery room as their mother gave birth to twins, and is now telling the tale! So first the greater tentacle monster is born, then comes 14th doctor. Again a simple mistake of not putting a comma after monster.

Anyone who thinks they might have a propensity for this should take a low-dose aspirin before a flight or long car trip. Makes the blood cells more slippery, acting as a thinner of sorts (even though it's really not) and helping to prevent the formation of clots.

It's also a vasodilator, so helps widen the vessels to stop any small clots blocking them.
