My mom made me go to church as a kid, it was my decision to accept Christ and be baptized. She didn't make me adhere to certain practices. Yes, we said grace at my grandma's house at dinner time and she would make us say it on thanksgiving, but that's about it. Would I call it "forcing" religion? Well, I couldn't really say no I'm not going. She wouldn't beat me, I doubt she would punish me, but I just knew I had to go. When I was a teen, I stopped. She didn't like it and we argued over it, but eventually she got over it. I wouldn't consider that being forced. I'm thinking more along the lines of people like maybe Mormons who if you step out of line in any way, you're fucked.

There are always going to be people who make mistakes or expect a miracle cure from something. SRS can help gender dysphoria, but it does not fix the world or make things easier in life. If you expect that you will do it and everything will fall into place you are probably goi9ng to be very disappointed.

I also noticed the article spoke mainly of FtM trans people, and that most of them had autism. Perhaps it is more related to the autism and that is not going to be helped by exposing yourself to a world of judgmental assholes. It might also be something related to the gender paradigm of society. Going MtF exposes you to societal prejudice and the mistreatment of women. You are pretty much going to face negatives from society, if you pass, that would discourage you from the path and make you ask yourself more seriously if this is for you. If you are doing it the other way things might actually be positive if you pass and eliminate things like PMS. All of a sudden you might gain more respect socially and you gain strength and lose the monthly visitor. This might cause you to ignore any misgivings you have with being male while you really want to be female.

It could also be a matter of miscommunication over gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria is not just disliking being your gender, though that is what such a negative term comes across as. Women seem to face a lot more negative social and psychological issues with being their gender. This is less a matter of being female, and more a matter of how people treat them (Of course, I am sure many of them would love to get rid of some of the annoying physical issues with having a female reproductive system). Is it a huge stretch some of them would rather be men because of external influence over internal issues of having a better relationship with themselves over being male? Then you face every person like @Dinner trying to tell you those feelings are wrong, so you end up arguing against them rather than looking at yourself because they are your first obstacle.

Then you have the problem of the preachers, AKA gender psychologists, being your gatekeeper rather than helping you. They are your biggest enemy for getting to your goal, and their judgment is something you need to even start looking at yourself. So the one person who is supposed to be helping you sort things out is actually the person you have to prove yourself too and never make a mistake or else they will stop you cold and they are given power over your progression. So to deal with them you have to brainwash yourself into never having a doubt or else they pull that dream from you rather than actually doing anything useful. I tend not to deal with psychologists very well. Give me a doctor to monitor my body and physical health and take the @Dayton Kitchens wannabe psychologist and get the fuck out of my way.

It is not terribly amazing some people make the wrong decision when dealing with all of these things. The reality that most people know what they are doing and are happy after doing it does not change the fact people should be allowed to do as they see fit.
