Apparently "Elnor" is Tolkien Elvish for either "Star Trek," or "escaping a supernova," depending on the exact translation. :async:

I like the character of Narek and think the actor playing him are fine, I just wish he didn't look like a member of One Direction.

Same. Every time the focus switches to Raffi, I feel my enthusiasm wane. I just don't know her well enough to care much about her various dramas.

Not wild about Elnor, either. They give him occasional humorous moments, but, otherwise, Romulan samurai Legolas isn't doing it for me.

Like Rios and Jurati, though. Like the hot Romulan sister. Narek's fine as a character but, ugh, his appearance just bugs me. Soji? Kinda neutral on her, but I am starting to care about her part of the story.

Really liked this week's Hugh, where he was interacting with Picard. Want more Seven; I'll take as much of her as I can get. :diacanu:

Here’s what I don’t understand, Soji has suspected Narek to be Tal Shiar pretty much the whole time, yet willingly gives up information, why?

I would watch the hell out of a series based on the Fenris Rangers with Seven at the helm.

Yes, it's certainly a better idea than a "Section 31" series (although I'll reserve judgment until I actually see the show).

That, and she doesn't initially realize she has anything to hide, so why would she bother withholding anything? She probably assumes she's not his actual target, and this is just how Tal Shiar agents act with everyone.

I don't knowingly know any important secrets either. If some Russian honeypot tries "pumping me for information" tomorrow, I'll tell her whatever she wants.

@14thDoctor you like this show because of the goodwill you afford the characters that you remember from the TNG era. Your mind willingly fills in the gaps left open by the shitty writing team. If you had no knowledge of these characters, you'd hate this show.

When Enterprise was in the womb, the three choices bandied about were Section 31, prequel, and ex-Borg.
Prequel won, and we got Enterprise.

I hated the idea of the other two at the time, because all we knew of Section 31 back then was the DS9 version, and they were scum, and I was sick of scummy government shit after X-Files buttraped our whole culture for a decade; and fresh after Voyager, I was Borged out.

Now, with a 20 year break, I'm up for the Discovery version of Section 31 with Michelle Yeoh, and Hell yeah, bring on more Seven.

I honestly don't have anything against him or his character. I just thought the plot involving him was just plodding along. It got boring to me.

After a second viewing, I see that Narek and "Lt. Rizzo" did get a clue from Soji where this "planet of synths"were located. A planet with 2 red moons and constant lightening. Wish I understood what the Romulans were after by destryoing all Synths.... and Maddox.

Section 31 could be done well. The Sloan episodes of DS9 (especially "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges") were pretty good.

    1. You know fuck all about what I "like."

    2. Memba berries! Memba berries! :tbbs:

    3. If the writers/producers really wanted to cash in on nostalgia without trying, they could easily pay to reassemble the old cast and crank out TNG season 8. First episode they get reassigned to another Galaxy class ship, bring Data back to life, and fight Q, second episode they fight the Borg, third episode they visit DS9, fourth episode they meet Admiral Janeway and Voyager, Fifth episode they fight holographic Khan, Sixth episode is Inner Light Part 2, seventh episode they fight the Daleks, eighth episode they meet mostly naked T'Pol (who's still young and hot), ninth and tenth episodes are a two-parter where they fight the Mirror Universe Enterprise captained by evil Barclay. They could do that shit easily, and idiots would lap it up.

At least they're kind of trying something new.

There's nothing wrong with revisiting the past and past adversaries. It makes sense that if you're doing Picard, then you'd revisit the Borg, the Romulans and something related to Data, but the execution is mediocre and convoluted at best.

Really? Describe what you like about the show without referring to events from TNG.

They couldn't do TNG Season 8 because it would have cost too much. Look at the corners they've been cutting as it is. There are a LOT of STD set redresses going on. And, still, they're cashing in on TNG nostalgia by using membaberries with Data, Riker, Seven etc.

Bold of you to assume I "like" the show. It's Star Trek, and I've got a light schedule on Thursdays, so I'm watching it, but I've got plenty of criticisms of it, some of which I've shared here, and I'm not yet recommending it to my friends that are on the fence about most Trek but loved DS9.

At the same time, that doesn't mean I'm going to join in with the edgelords that insist on mindlessly shitting on something because they think being able to complain makes them cool and smart.

    Criticisms:

-The entire premise amounts to character assassination. Picard suffers a blow to his ego during a massive humanitarian crisis and immediately isolates himself from the galaxy at large for over a decade? He abandons the Romulans. He abandons Raffi. He does absolutely nothing to help either. Why am I watching a show about this pretty childish asshole?

-No one from the Enterprise showed up to slap the shit out of Picard before this? Not Crusher, not Pulaski, not LaForge, not even Riker? Who Picard originally chose as XO for just such a situation?

-The Vulcans didn't step up to help the Romulans? Poor Spock. All that work on reunification for nothing.

-Killing Icheb was pretty cool, but in what universe are Borg implants worth anything? It's the nanoprobes that do all the cool shit. Unless space-Chinese are grinding up Borg implants to make their dicks harder because they've run out of rhino horns, this makes no sense.

-Ichebs DNA has that cube crippling shit in it. His implants must have it too. The mafia knows enough to target him, but not enough to know about that? He would have tainted their supply.

-Seven's space rangers should have been called the Maquis, but the writers have a Lord of the Rings boner you can see from light years away.

-The Romulans control a mostly intact Borg cube, and the Klingons and Federation just let them? Starfleet and the KDF are chill about this massive existential threat right on their doorstep, hopefully no one hits the wrong switch and the Borg are attacking Earth 20 minutes later? I can't believe there wasn't a push to destroy the thing. Starfleet blows up every Iconian gateway they find, no questions asked.

-Hugh is a sweetheart, but wait, Picard never advocated for other ex-Borg either? You just know Seven and Icheb were treated with suspicion when Voyager got back, especially since Icheb wasn't a federation citizen. And Picard never spoke up for them. What an asshole.

-At no point has Kim Pine played the drums. :(

TBH, I liked the Pocket Books relaunch novels better than I'm liking this so far.
