Oh, and this whole "protect the foundling/find the secret homeworld of her people" plotline was better the first time, when it was called The Mandalorian. :async:

I liked the magic scanning device that recreates past events better when I saw Peter Quill use it at the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy.

Oh, and Doctor Who already did the whole "Protagonist withdraws from society, cute young woman makes him care again, cute young woman dies, it's okay, there's another one out there just like her and also there's a mystery surrounding her to solve" thing back in 2012. :async:

If they're going to push the LOTR stuff further, is Seven the Aragorn? Is she going to become Queen of the artifact? :borg:

You'd think Seven would be in Starfleet as the number one expert on the Borg or something like that.

Bigger question: Are they going to engage in 20 minutes of speechifying, when really only about 2 seconds of visual information is all that's necessary?

Okay finally got around to watching episode six.....

Narek/Soji plot is boring. I think I'm going to root for Narek's sister to just shoot Soji in the face and get it over with.

Dr. Jurati manages to lie her way through a murder? Did she reprogram the EMH to dump the data about his death?

Picard goes into rampage mode over the Borg. I was expecting him to knock over some model ship so Jurati could say, "You broke your little ships."

Picard has PTSD from being a Borg.

Rios ship is huge for just a single person to run it. Yeah he's got holograms to help out but still it's a big ship.

Dr. Jurati decides to sleep with Rios to deal with the guilt of being a killer. Rios is taking advantage of her because I don't think they are the type who would get together.

Rizzo should shoot Nareek and Soji.

Nice to see the Romulan government still exists. That does answer a question I've had since the show started.

Raffi.... Not liking this particular character.

There is one thing that is irking me and it's the communications. Even using subspace communications no one should be talking like they do. The communications delay should be there.

If Soji's communications are 70 seconds each time why hasn't the paranoid Romulans already pulled her to the side to figure out what is going on?

Borg are like the Empire from Star Wars. No handrails and big drops! Someone call OSHA.....

    Round ears.

Looks like Soji was real and the Soji on the table had human Soji's memories implanted in it. Sort of like Rachel from Blade Runner.

Going to radiation her to death? Instead of shooting her? Typical Hollywood trope from the bad guy.

How does Elnor know how to use a transporter? And than Picard dresses him down for saving his ass.

Why wouldn't Elnor just leave with Picard?

Hugh is hiding Borg stuff from the Romulans. Smart. Especially since a 40,000 light year gate would be a huge advantage to anyone who had it.

I'm watching it but it's not like I'm hot to watch it. I don't rush home on Thursday's to see it. It's just not that good.

You'd think the Borg would use that technology to assimilate worlds easily.

Yeah, it's basically the end of the game if the Borg can instantly send drones to planets or ships half a galaxy away. Why is the Queen being so sporting about it and only using the technology for her own emergency evacuations? :chris:

Because in the end evil dictators are all the same, they only care about themselves. If the queen can escape, she can rebuild.

Here you go, it’s a real thing and I know you’ve seen something similar and are just trolling. Every review I’ve seen said the same thing that it’s been done to death, but you mostly don’t see it in Science Fiction. Now that I think of it though Riker and B’elanna both had absentee fathers. Riker’s dad tried to make it up to him and he rejected him at first, then they had that fight. It’s not the exact same thing with Raffi, but pretty close.

Same or similar on Voyager. The Doctor had an argument with his holo-daughter, then she died. Ummm... maybe not, he couldn't really make up with her, he had a bit of a heart to heart, but didn't really get to make up with her.

More like Kirk and David, they made up then David died. Ummm... Spock and his father, well no he died too.

    Shit... never mind.

And Luke Skywalker had that thing with his dad. Am I the only one here who's read The Hero With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell? Daddy issues are pretty much the central core of the majority of myths out there.

I recognize it's a trope, but tropes aren't necessarily cliches, and like you admitted, this trope is rarely used in science fiction, let alone on Star Trek. So I don't think it's a bad thing at all.

If we're going to consider tropes as flaws, then pretty much all media is vomit inducing.

Show me a completely original film or TV program--one devoid of all tropes and conventions--and I'll show you something completely unwatchable.

We depend on certain conventions to immerse ourselves in filmed entertainment, and if they're omitted, it immediately makes us uncomfortable, sometimes in a way we can't even articulate. But mostly it will just look wrong and unprofessional.

Shall we go back and look at your original complaint? First you claimed you "nearly puked" because "it's been done billions of times."

Then when I pressed you for examples, you provided one that didn't apply, and deflected for over a week before providing a link to a tvtropes.org page while saying that "all the reviews you've seen say the same thing," while still admitting it's not a common sci-fi trope.

How is that not you blindly parroting what you've heard elsewhere?

At least when I'm complaining about them copying broad strokes from other properties, I can cite the recent and relevant sci-fi and fantasy properties that they're cribbing from. :async:

Nothing wrong with that. I fully admit that there's really nothing new under the sun, but this trope, I've seen done to death and in this particular show it's boooooooring AF and I don't care about it at all.

I'm not blindly parroting it. I recognized the trope when I watched the episode, I knew I had seen it elsewhere. I still can't think of the show or movie that I saw this exact scenario where the parent shows up and usually sneaks up from behind, announces themselves, expects a warm greeting, but is rejected, and then that same exact conversation takes place. I suspect they are ripping it off completely, but I know it wasn't that long ago that I saw a TV show or movie do it recently. I then went on YouTube to watch reviewers to see if I was the only one who'd seen this or was I just crazy, or in other words, to confirm my theory. Sure enough, they had. They didn't mention any particular movies or TV shows that had done it recently.

No i didn't literally "nearly puke" and no I haven't literally "seen it a billion times", it's called exaggeration. I thought you were smart enough to recognize that, but I digress. You pressed me for examples and I couldn't provide any at the time. Because of that, it stuck in my mind. I wanted to find answer to your question so I went online and did some research and that's when I found that website. Sorry it took so long, but I do have other things going on in my life.

I'll admit, I jumped the gun, but I knew I was right anyway. I just had no way to prove it at the time.

Because I'm not the one blinded, you are. I tested myself by watching other reviews and they all said the same thing. That's how I know I'm right.

    How do you know?

    So what?
One guy could be blind, and the rest are all copying him.

I keep offering critical thinking as the tie-breaker for this sort of thing, but you hate it, because it erases Baby Jesus.

Did you not read my reply to @14thDoctor ? I recgnized the trope while watching the episode, watched reviews to see if I was the only one. The reviewers I watched said the same thing. I wanted to investigate it further and came across that website. I didn't find the website first. Try reading people's posts before you start your usual bullshit.

Geez, I did't stoop that low with you, I just questioned your sources, and critical process.
No need of that vicious nonsense.
