I should be more clear. The choice is up to you. Bernie was my compromise. He's out, and he's backing Joe Biden. None of the other candidates appeal to me (Liz lost me after she also backed Biden, despite having perfectly valid reasons to reject him outright). If I wanted to vote for someone despite not choosing a Democrat, then I'd probably pick someone like Howie Hawkins from the Green Party, but that's if I believed electoralism is still a valid system in the age of instant information (whether factual or fantasy), and I'm just not convinced of that anymore. I don't trot out the notion that a third party vote is a wasted vote, because you should always vote your conscience. Otherwise, what the hell are you doing with your vote?

That said, voting itself, in our current system, is so goddamned hamstrung that Rube Goldberg couldn't have done better creating a labyrinthine method of voting. Your vote is so far separated from the actual results that it feels almost pointless to cast it, and there are a lot of people who feel that way, though they may have arrived to those conclusions from different positions. 3 million more people voted for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, and Donald Trump won. We talk about "red" states and "blue" states when it's all a hodgepodge of colors. The two party system? Needs abolished. Electoralism? Either needs massive reform, or just replaced with another system. What that would entail would take more time than I even wish to devote here, but regardless, our system doesn't work for us. Did you want two men accused of sexual assault representing you at the top of the electoral food chain? I doubt it. Yet here we are, being told about how great Joe Biden is, how evil Donald Trump is, and how once again we'll just have to put those pesky civil, economic, and social issues on the back burner until we can "heal" as a nation. It's when you look at the wider scope of U.S. history where you start to see all of the repeating loops, the same story told over and over again, maybe with different characters and different scenarios, but always the same excuses. I believe we're in a failing system, and that our votes are nothing more than a distraction to keep us from utilizing our real power, a power that supersedes the sole power of the ballot box that we trudge to every 2-4 years.

So... nothing. You've got nothing. People are literally dying, and you're just pissing into the wind. Thousands of your fellow Americans have died from covid19 for no other reason than Trumps incompetence, and your plan to remove him from office is.... nothing. You're treating it like a game.

You're like a goddamn child. :jayzus:
That's complete bullshit. Your current system would work just fine if American leftists like you got off their asses and took elections seriously. Republicans take elections seriously, that's why they keep winning. They understand the long game, they understand that winning access to the levers of power is the whole point of electoral politics. That's how they slowly keep pushing America further and further to the right, while American leftists convince themselves that apathy and surrender are some sort of moral victory.

This is so important. We all wondered how the republicans could allow a scumbag like trump who grabbed women by the pussy and attempted to rape them into office. He is a horrible person and we all said why can't the RNC find someone who does not do this to put up there. Now the dems pull the same shit. why am I going to vote blue no matter what when blue seems to do the same thing red does? This is the time to say some of us have standards and you do not have our vote if you run rapey joe. We are not at the election where we have to make the decision between joe and trump yet. This is where we make the decision on joe or any of the other candidates who are not rapey.

In the end you have to hold to standards and be willing to call the bluff of the dems and not vote for joe or else the rapists win. Now is the time to show the dems joe is a loser so do something to pick someone else because we are not following you down to that low bar. It does not even make any sense to put a limebag like joe in so he can be hammered as the cause of all the problems for the next four years. He is not going to fix anything, so let trump and the republicans take more shit if this is what the dems are going to do.

Do not get mad at @Amaris or any other person who has standards when your anger should be at yourself for having no standards. You are the ones who look bad, not the ones who wont side with a rapey creepy republican because that is the choices they are given.

Now idiots jump to Bernie. Run Warren, Klobachar, or one of the other candidates. Pick someone else who was not there and who isn't rapey like bloomberg and biden. They have tons of people. Tell Joe to step the fuck down because the establishment can tell him that, and chose someone else because you do not have the time to do another election. I may believe in Bernie, but even I could accept that Bernie is an independent at heart and did not win enough to secure the nomination so they will just pick someone else.

Even I think Bernie is trying to come into a party that is not a progressive party and it is time to make a progressive party. The dems are not progressive, and I get that. Run Hillary, or run chuck schumer. Find a better establishment candidate who is not racist creepy joe. I accept Bernie is not an option.

Here is a thing I accept as a progressive. The progressive view may not presently be able to get enough support to make a truly progressive candidate president. This is why we have a party system. Make a true progressive party that runs people for the legislature. Then in the primaries they can decide if the dem candidate is who they chose to run under their flag, or someone else. That is how you influence the dem candidate.

Let the dem party become the establishment party and take over the middle.

Won’t work without RCV in single-winner elections, and STV multi-member legislative districts. Otherwise best you’ll ever be able to do is coopt one party or the other locally, like AOC did.

The wont work attitude is undermining to the progressive movement. There is a reality to politics that perception becomes a powerful tool. If the right people perceive it will work and are threatened enough by it to vote a certain way then it works. Politics is not a mathmatical equation. That is what the polls get wrong.

That is the fun of allowing everyone to vote. So it seems to me you might have a problem with real democracy and not my idea. As for me, I do have trouble with real democracy and see many ways of fixing it well, and having a strong system that can survive a trump is part of it.

So do you have anther sarcastic response mr. I take my cues from petulant teenagers?

That is what lawyers do. Thank you for trying to trash her reputation because of some unrelated thing. I don't know if she is a great person or not, but this is like how people like @Zombie and crew attack Treyvon Martin and made him out to be a horrible monster when he was just a kid walking around his community. This is the same exact sort of attack and it looks just as scummy on the left as it does on the right. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and you should see the same ugly that is zombie and @Max Rebo .

I save my fights for the victims that need a defense and not for pretty little starlets who sucked weinstein's dick for a role. They got the benefit of encouraging and enabling that sort of behavior. However, in this case it is easy to attack her because you are scared of the consequences she did not set up. Biden set up these consequences and he is the one commanding you sell out women for a hope against trump instead of stepping down because he is not of the calliber to be president.

American leftists are less likely to vote than rightists due to social standing. When you're working 2 jobs and don't know what's for dinner voting just isn't a priority. It's easier to be idealistic with a full belly and spare time.

Both sides are afraid of tinkering with the political machine and making voting easier, but based on history, I'd say republicans generally favor making it more difficult. This is shaping elections at the local level for both local, state, and federal elections.

The electoral college really needs to go. It's unfair that a few swing states determine elections. My vote here in GA other than local elections is wasted.

GA is pretty much a swing state this year. The last gubernatorial was really tight and polls show a tough fight for Trump this year.

And social standing is a weak excuse. The majority of people who vote are in the lower class. It's just lower class Republicans vote at a higher rate than lower class Democrats do.

That's not hard to do at all. It only takes two provisions:

    1) Put in place a system where everyone is allowed to vote, except for those who are mentally deficient or morally depraved. That is a very reasonable way of doing it, because it is obvious to everyone (except the mentally deficient and morally depraved...) that such people cannot be trusted to make decisions that will affect the lives and livelihood of everyone else.

    2) Let me be in charge of deciding who is in what category. :)
