Biden had a huge initial lead here but it's tightened as election-day votes caught up with early votes.

Only 13% of the vote in, but Biden is crushing Trump in Pennsylvania.

No surprise there. Florida is not a surprise, either.

But from what I'm seeing, Trump is leading in Michigan.

I doubt that means much, though, since Michigan couldn't start counting mail-in ballots until yesterday. I expect that to flip.

So, I decided to have a look-see at the race so far on Google, and I found this interesting :chris:

Granted, I doubt this imbalance will hold, but in the event that Biden did get an electoral victory without the popular vote, I wonder how many of the "It's Legal!!!!" crowd will be banging at their representative's doors tomorrow demanding voting reform :?:

There was never any real hope of unseating him, unfortunately.

I'm sure hoping he won't be majority leader any more, though.

It's scary. There really are two Americas. And if Dem turnout is super high and the Republicans still win...I'm scared for the future.

That's because your choice of media sources 'forced' you to think that. The polls and related "reporting" were interested not in truth but primarily in BIden fundraising, better fundraising if it looks like Biden will win; a loop of wrong (false, imo)-info-for-a-particular-purpose feedback.

    An update :bergman:

    20201103_185900.jpg
Assuming Google is even remotely accurate:

    1) that's depressing that Trump is STILL this popular
    2) I don't want a win under these circumstances because you damn well know the GOP won't respect it.

His opponent had a great fight, and he was completely outmatched and exposed. It never mattered. KY is full of the worst types of cult republicans. It also never had the large migrations of northeastern democrats other states have had that have shifted their suburbs away from the republican cults. There was no hope he would lose, and death will be the only way we are rid of the turtle. He will be followed by another republican scumbag because that is who is the majority in KY.

Is CNN at least bringing back holographic reporters? I remember that from either 2012 or 2016, and it seems like holographic reporters would be fairly COVID friendly.

It has been a bit interesting to see the news so varied and flip flopping in their predictions. I always noticed in the past a tendency to call things vbery early with a small number of precincts reporting based on exit polls. Now it is like the news has no idea how to deal with things.

He's right, but there's no reason that this election should be anything remotely approaching close.

Here's the problem I see with a potential Trump win:

    1. American global influence continues to wane. Yes, you have a big friggin' army with all the gunz but if you haven't realized your influence is in sharp decline, you're not paying attention.

    2. The European Union continues to act as the de facto "leader" of the western world. This is not really a good thing, for various reasons I won't spell out in this thread.

    3. Current and former communist/fascist states become more emboldened and flex their muscles and political influence.

All of this equals a very chaotic world that could easily tip into widespread, if not global, conflict.

But this isn't Donald's Trump fault.

It's the over 45% of Americans who voted for him.

It's the almost 60% of Americans who don't hold a passport and really know nothing of the world beyond their borders.

I really hope Biden squeaks by, but the fact that the election is this close tells me that the United States has likely already passed the tipping point and we are witnessing the collapse of the American Empire.

    :(

That is a bubble of optimism that it is trump that ix this popular. Stupidity, prejudice, hate, and tribalism are this popular. Trump is just the guy who really embraced all that republicans embrace. The idea that they have somehow shifted to be worse is the false idea. The intentional blindness of people who did not want to believe the worst about the right might have been damaged (I do not think so considering they want biden to make up with them) but those people were never great.

I have been trying to say it for years that I have seen the racists at work, family functions, and in general white people areas. If you go to a white people gathering, let people get drunk or high, and then just mention "those people." You will find out who "those people" are in the minds of people around you. It will get worse and worse as people bitch and connect with other people around. I know it so well that I will say any white person who says they do not know that many white people will start saying racist things when they think they are alone with only white people is a liar, and probably one of the ones who talk shit the most.

It is not just black people. GLBT people love to discuss how others act when they think we are not around. If you could hide with a bunch of white peo-ple like a GLBT can hide in a group of straights you would really be shocked at how good people act. I did not realize how deep that hidden racism really effected things until I ended up in prison and had to take a good long look at our systematic poverty trap known as public assistance. I am totally for a public minimum that keeps people off the streets and healthy, but we do have to eliminate the chasm between relying on that and getting off of it to improve their position. When I talk to people who don't seem to be prejudice and find that they have no opposition to credit checks for emp0loyment, or having time on welfare be a part of a background check for employers I notice people really do support these obvious methods to eliminate people from employment through criminal and monetary signals that effect minorities far more than white people.

These things did not come out of the blue. These methods of figuring out color without having it stated are ways that the establishment left embraces just as strongly as the right. This is the majority of americans. I think it was Cjenk from TYT who recently said it was a product of pure capitalist cut throat systems. When you are forced into a system of you vs everyone else, and your basic survival is reliant upon cutting others down so you ca.n have a chance, prejudice and hate become great weapons to use. Capitalism is not just you getting better things. Your survival is reliant upon you taking other people down. That system breeds and nourishes the ideas of hate. It might help a lot to bring up new generations who do not have to think of others as their enemy to survival. A societal level of guaranteed survival and a guarantee of work for those who want to get ahead would do wonders for how people are psychologically.

All I can see in my mind is this headline: BLUE WAVE FAILS TO MATERIALIZE.

I know it's early, but I feel pessimistic as hell. Is this country really that conservative as to allow this president another term? To hand the Republicans the keys to the Senate again?
