this is the most cogent and powerful - and accurate - take I've seen about this week of bullshit.

Given that most of the "Illegals Are Criminals!!!!" and "BLM Is a Terrarist Threat to All White People," and "Democrats Kill Babies Five Minutes After They're Born" posters in my FB feed are from N.C., I can't say I'm surprised.

Yup. Eastern Oregon too. In a lot of ways they already are (a Washington state rep was literally involved in a secessionist movement up there)

True dat. The urban areas (particularly Eugene, which is a college town) is educated and sane and, perforce, liberal. The eastern wilds of Oregon are (excuse the racism) redneck country.

Here's a question for the future: As nominally a redneck (i.e., if I step outdoors for five minutes without sunblock I start to sizzle like bacon and, except for two high school summers as a day-camp counselor where I ended up brick-red and numb after three months I have religiously avoided direct sunlight; Basal-Cell Skin Cancer R Us), am I allowed to diss my own people (including, much to my embarrassment, the Asshole-in-Chief)?

"Significant" is subjective. You implied no legislation would pass. I said only laws with bipartisan appeal would.

Here's a list of legislation that passed in Congress in 2019-20.

In the common parlance, redneck is a lifestyle choice, not a pigmentation issue. :bergman:

You would've had to have been born upstate. :ramen:

Damn right, and thank you for being aware of the difference between NYC (which most people think of when you say "New York") and Upstate. Upstate resents the hell out of being identified as "New York," but they don't have the skills to differentiate themselves.

Don't ask me about my gun-totin' cousin who figured there was nothing wrong with screwing his co-worker and then coming home to crawl into bed with his wife under the excuse of "Had to work late tonight" without bothering to shower off her perfume first. If his father were still alive, he'd've smacked him upside the head. :bergman:

I stayed up to watch this and I'm not afraid to say that this was the saddest display in American politics I had the misfortune to see. Spewing lies, smearing the election system while surrounded by the presidential insignia? Stopping juuuuust short of demanding that armed nazi groups storm the counting places?

    Wow.

I know there probably are a few Trumpists here. What do you say? You just believe what he says because he says it or do you too have a point where you say this far, no farther?

^ All good as long as @Paladin gets his conservative judges and his tax breaks.

But let's not overburden Rightforge. The whole country knows Trump; it knew he was going to go down like this. Still he's received more votes this year than any candidate in US history except Joe Biden. That is the true depth of the sadness.

Biden just took the lead in Georgia. Republicans and Republican-leaning media have begun turning on Trump.

    It's over.

It wasn't any different than what you'd expect from him (given how many predicted it) so we can only assume they do.

It's not surprising, but it is absolute confirmation that Trump boarded the non-stop crazy train, and is a significant danger to the democratic institutions of the Republic.

There literally is no other interpretation of his "press conference" last night.

I defy anyone to defend it.

The election chairman for NC held a press conference Tuesday saying they world not release results until all votes are counted. Both PA and NC. Said basically the same thing. So I don’t remember exact words. Either way, I think the 20th is when both states will release thtt St it final results.

This is a Fox News update from Atlanta. Jane, what are you seeing?

Brian, a Trump campaign bus has been seen careening around the city's loop road, I285, at speeds in excess of 85MPH, causing vehicles to leave the road. Reports indicate these are all Ford pickup trucks of the F150 model. We're waiting here on the overpass of I285 at Spaghetti Junction to see if we can get a glimpse of the bus the next time it circles the city.

    Back to you, Brian.

Well, there you have it; Georgia has swung blue, and a Trump bus is out of control somewhere on I285. We will alert you as we get additional updates from our reporters in Atlanta.

I'm getting pretty sick of all the ridiculous antics that my "fellow Conservatives" are getting up to these days. I'm really a man without a home. Too liberal for the Republicans, way too conservative for the Democrats, way, way, way too pragmatic for the Libertarians. *sigh*

I'm probably the only "Trump Supporter " (and THAT certainly comes with about fifty asterisks, qualifiers, and disclaimers) that doesn't necessary think that Biden becoming President is going to be the end of the world.

You don't see it on Wordforge (because face it, I just don't like posting here that much anymore, even though I read it a ton), but in person / social media I am very hard on my close friends and family that support Trump because I want them to be better and do better.

    Crazy world.

Well, we all do. And, it's people that want a better world, but willing to work together that is going to make things work. I know it isn't me - I'm completely unwilling to give up any ground, and that is why I'm not a politician. One way to make things better is to stop villifying A) the other side; and B) politicians.
