Yes, yes, I know, we have multiple COVID threads but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THIS IS A BIG FUCKING MILESTONE AND THE FUCKING GOVERNOR IS STILL REFUSING TO DO A GOD DAMN THING BECAUSE ‘LIBERTY’!

Oh, my bad, being a bit hyperbolic, he has done something:

These staff shortages prompted Gov. Doug Burgum (R) to order healthcare workers who tested positive for the virus but aren’t showing symptoms to still report for work.

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!?!?!

Governors of North and South Dakota seem to be having a contest to see who can kill more people, but in different ways. Noem (SD) went full-on Trumper and still pretty much denies that there is any problem, Burgum (ND) seemed to think people would "do the right thing" on their own.

I'm still here on the other side of the river, but our county isn't doing so well either. :garamet:

If they take sensible precautions, they go against the Trumpism line, and they piss off the Trump cult.
It's all about preserving their political asses.
And they'll kill every man, woman, child, pet animal, zoo animal, circus animal, insect, tree, flower, and blade of grass to do it if they have to.
    Their cowardice is bottomless.
They're all Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham.

    But why is anyone shocked?
They're already killing us all with global warming.
    Have been since the 70's.
That just hasn't felt as real, cuz it's in slower motion, so more invisible in people's daily lives.
Except for all the history defining hurricanes.
That the fucktards blame on buttsex.

Sadly he's alive and fine with people refusing safety measures, so long as they're okay with the consequences. The consequences in this scenario being other people getting sick and dying, of course.

X and I go way back to the Enterprise form and were once united against the shipper trolls that went full gtardo. He's the reason I invited the guy here (he had an account before his current one)

Either I can't read people for shit or the forum was just that batshit stupid if he stood out as an intellectual giant there. :jayzus:

Funny enough, I ran into a couple of his T/T'P friends on TBBS who have given Trek a chance again now that Berman is out the picture and none of them seemed shocked that he'd turned fashy. :chris:

I am not going to do some math in the red room, but I wouldi think the ratio is extremely skewed in ND compared to states that have people in them.

This begs the question if a ND resident dies and no one else is around to count them are they really a statistic?

Given that the greatest percentage of COVID deaths nationwide is among Native populations, I wonder whether @Ancalagon can provide us with information on the numbers of dead on the rez. Or is he just grabbing headlines? :bergman:

Which still isn't even close to the highest of any state:

New Jersey: 1 out of 509
New York: 1 out of 557
    Massachusetts: 1 out of 629
    Connecticut: 1 out of 693
    Louisiana: 1 out of 710
Rhode Island: 1 out of 750
    Mississippi: 1 out of 754
North Dakota: 1 out of 757

The figure for all of the United States right now is that 1 person out of 1153 has died of the virus. :(

have at it! No thanks to that weather. When I was in the Air Force they had a saying: "why not Minot? Freezin's the reason!" :(
Bear in mind the AF had bases in Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, Maine, etc etc but Minot North Dakota was high on the list of bases where you didn't want to be stationed. Winters were long, cold & windy.

Not to marginalize the tragedy of COVID (hey, I could be next who knows?) but IMHO it's "unimaginable" that 25 percent of Americans die of largely preventable heart disease annually.
True heart disease is not contagious, but it is mostly preventable and costs the U.S. 219 billion (in 2015) which would cover a lot of stimulus checks. Just sayin'
I say this not to mock the COVID victims, just to help us keep things in perspective.
Bottom line: everyone dies eventually - "name your poison" as they say. It's how you live that matters IMHO.

Especially since 25% of Americans don't die annually, from anything.

Can you imagine? That would mean that in 2020, 82 million Americans would die of heart disease.

Something tells me that oldfella's mathematics are seriously in error...

Not exactly. The number who die each year would continually decrease, as it would be 25% of an increasingly small number. At some point, there would only be four people left, and only one of them would die of heart disease that year.
