Just had my first Coke, a Coca Cola for the first time in about three or four months. And maybe the sixth or seventh coke since last March. Fuck me. It was like drinking syrup. The first sip nearly made me gag. It tasted so.... bad? The flavor was cloying, it took four or five sips before it even wasn't overpowering in drinking it. Before last March, I probably had about one a day. Now I can't even imagine having another one. Only reason I even had one just now, we're in Asheville NC, and stopped at our third brewery. And since I'm driving I needed to have something other than beer.
Yeah, I quit soda over 10 years ago and went over to flavored seltzers, cuz it was giving me gout and stones, and anytime I have sugar soda for a birthday or something, it's like chugging pancake syrup.
I rarely drink a non-diet soda, but when I do it's a Mexico Coca-cola made with actual sugar instead of corn syrup.
If you like the taste of beer, there are some seriously phenomenal non-alcoholic beers available these days. Not like the shite from years ago.
I drink diet soda in addition to vitamin water and seltzers, but same deal. A regular soda is like trying to drink maple syrup.
Same. Diet soda gives me the sweetness without the thickness. I know it’s not healthy but I’m a serious addict.
Soda is poison Can't believe all the rye and cokes I used to drink in my 20s, wtf was I even thinking
it depends on who is conducting the experiment. The data on fake sugar is all over the map - every study proves something different it seems.
I started drinking those about four years ago. Now I'm going through three to six a day. When I'm really thirsty, one of those is about the only thing that really helps. I'll also sometimes mix the seltzers with the frozen limeade concentrate, it makes a great carbonated limeade.
I gave up sugared sodas years ago, then gave up diet sodas and alcohol after the bariatric surgery 3 years ago. Iced tea with stevia is the poison of choice these days.
If you're in N.C., try Cheerwine. I usually only drink tea, but if I'm going to drink a soda it's going to be Cheerwine.
Was in Asheville earlier today, saw Cheerwine in several places. But I can get it in the Kroger and Publix stores by my house. Also, in SC, I saw Nehi in several places. Kept thinking about the Grape Nehi's that Radar would always get on M*A*S*H.
That's why I drink gin and tonics medicinally every night. Plus the lime gives me Vitamin C (I think-- what am I, a doctor? ).
I'll still drink root beer, but only with a meal. Pretty much anything carbonated makes me gassy. Plain water if I'm thirsty.
I got a soda stream a couple years ago - that way I can add as much or as little syrup as I like. Also, I can buy syrup with either sugar or HFCS. But, with covid, exchanging the CO2 containers is a bitch. When I gotta have a soda, I usually get a fountain drink. Otherwise, it's seltzer water for me.
