Season two had a rough start IMO, but these last few episodes have been gold.

This was easily one of the best Trek episodes. Ever.

So, I'm expecting a YouTube argument about "Headaches are considered so unusual by TNG that they're a sign of major medical problems, but period pains and menopause symptoms are still around?!!"

Of course, even TNG didn't stay consistent on the headache thing.

Neither Mariner nor Freeman seem like the type to just go to the doctor until things get out of hand. :clyde:

I can't believe people are saying the Vulcan lower decker is Boimler-ish. The brig like meditation punishments, the unauthorized research during work hours, the endless dramatic and emotional outbursts, breaking the rules and getting results, being reassigned as a punishment, she's clearly the Vulcan Mariner. She even did her version of Mariners sarcastic Vulcan greeting from last season.

And the Pakled LDs were clearly the Rutherford and Tendi, two good friends encouraging each other to follow their dreams. :async:

I think the LD Borg Drone 45673 and Borg Drone 96854 were more like Rutherford and Tendi.

Maybe - neither was on T'ana's list of medical hold-outs for their physicals, so they don't seem averse to seeing her.

Besides, the "headaches are unusual" thing implied there was some passive thing about Federation living that had almost eliminated them. Mood stabilizers in the replicated food? Would need to be something that could prevent random headaches too - ensuring good nutrition/hydration and making sure the airways don't get congested (clean air on ships) can only go so far.

DS9 ignored it though with Sisko often getting a tension headache when dealing with shit.

I feel like the "headaches are serious business" level of medical care is usually reserved for senior officers in high profile assignments, as is people taking "I've got a weird feeling" seriously. Remember when Harry Kim ended up back on Earth because of some anomaly and no one from Starfleet took him seriously when he insisted he and Paris supposed to be aboard Voyager and lost in the Delta quadrant?

Meanwhile Picard tells Starfleet that he and Q saved humanity in his dream the other night, and they send him another medal with no questions asked.

To be fair, Sisko dealt with a lot more shit than Picard usually did (Borg assimilation aside).

True, but while Drone 45673 does have Tendi's sense of wide-eyed wonder, I just can't imagine Drone 96854 wanting to just stare at the warp core like Rutherford does. He seems a little more cynical than that.

Plus, I don't think there's any tension. They're clearly banging like cybernetic bunnies in the Unimatrix.

That could be an argument for environmental measures that a Cardassian station wouldn't employ.

Well, they're a bunch of reptile people. At the very least they'd have hotter default temperatures and likely different humidity, as well as different UV light requirements. Sisko was living in a glorified terrarium. :clyde:

The temperature and lights, at least, were adapted to Bajoran/Human norms, since Garak complains about them when his implant starts malfunctioning.

This show has single-handedly reignited my passion for Star Trek. After the films and then Discovery, I was incredibly burnt out and ready to be done with the franchise entirely.

God help me, I have hope.

It goes deeper than you think, it seems. I was listening to a recent episode of How Did This Get Made podcast. One of the hosts is Paul Scheer, who voices Billups, and he said that elements of the backstory were taken from his own life. Also, Queen Billups was played by Paul Scheer's wife, June Diane Raphael, so that's just a wee bit weird.

The official podcast The Pod Directive is hosted by Tawney Newsome and Paul F. Tompkins and is actually pretty great. There's an episode which has them interviewing Tawney's "Two moms", her real mom and her Lower Decks mother.

Just had a thought: If Boimler gets promoted to the bridge crew, do you think that he'd get his own series called "Upper Decker"?

If you've never seen it, they worked together on Scheer's show NTSF:SD:SUV, which was amazing. Rebecca Romijn and Karen Gillan were there too, along with Kate Mulgrew giving the exact performance she should have used for Janeway.
