Anyway, for a bunch of TLDR reasons, I moved to Nevada recently. I gotta say I'm surprised that I haven't had nearly as much culture shock as I was expecting to have, given my time in Louisiana and being around crazy ass bitches from all parts of the country in the Navy. The only thing that's thrown me for a loop is the plastic bags that I stopped using long before California banned single use bags. My God, those things are annoying as balls and will pile up. The cashier's don't even ask, especially not at Walmart. I just take the bags, stuff the items in my own bags and chuck the plastic ones in the recycling bin most big box stores have. I don't even care about the environment as much as I do about minimalizing clutter. Also, the wind here is worse than Chicago and that bothers me way more than the fact that we had honest to God snow that froze a good part of the interstate yesterday. It was 80 degrees four days earlier. My dog wasn't much of a fan. Overall, Reno's a neat place. I can get my car serviced and In-N-Out is still in driving distance. As long as I have those two things, I can make do with everything else.
Oh, also Reno has a metric fuck ton of empty lots. Just within walking distance of where I live, there's at least five empty patches if land that look like there had to be a house and/or apartments at one time but ...now, nothing. No "For Sale" signs or development plan despite all the Californians moving here and looking for housing, nothing. The parking lots are stupid big. The entire state has the same population as San Diego but huge ass parking lots that are never more than one-quarter full. Anc would shit bricks. All I'll say about COVID protection is I'm glad I didn't move here two years ago and so far, I only ever see masks worn in the (surprisingly plentyful) Asian markets. So far, no one gives me shit for wearing one, which honestly is more for allergy reasons at this point. Which oh yeah, I can have real seasons again, hooray!
About 20.../25 ... years or so ago, the City of Waukegan passed a law that when a business closes, the owner has to tear down the building - including cement parking lots and plant grass. There still isn't a lot of business downtown, but it looks much nicer with green lots rather than cement lots with boarded up buildings. Waukegan is right on the lakefront and the large highways completely bypass the city. Due to poor planning and a city council that can't make a decision, the city lost the opportunity to clean up and create a tourist district down there. Now, it's completely dead. But, at least they have nice green empty lots.
Great strippers in Reno, went to a stag there once One place actually sold sushi but I wouldn't touch sushi in a place that's more than 50 miles from the ocean, let alone a strip club
You'll wanna move further east in the state, then. Reno is the second largest city in the state and while still a conservative district, probably still has too make Californian transplants for your liking. People at work here have told me there's an ass ton of Sushi places but being in Japan for three years has spoiled me for nearly all sushi, even what passes for "good" places in San Diego, that is right there by the ocean. No way in fuck am I touching the shit here I haven't bothered with restaurants here since I'm in my own kitchen for the first time in five years (another long story). In N Out and Round Table Pizza are in driving distance and that's all the fast food I care about.
So the dispensary I went to had a pretty fair decent selection. One difference that I was rather surprised about because...well, Nevada....is they were allowed to sell the stuff to actually smoke cannabis in the dispensary, which California stupidly does not allow I wasn't allowed to touch the rolling tray I bought until I purchased it, which is a weird law, but whaddyagonnado?
But re: CA, I did like how many dispensaries did separate medical grade stuff from recreational for the people who genuinely had illnesses they were treating, so you did still need a card for those items.
So...do they not give cancer grannies pineapple express cuz it'll knock her on her ass, or do they give her pineapple express because it's the horsepower she needs to eat? Or have you not had that conversation with the clerk yet?
Yea, the dispensary I go to recently expanded into the building next door. Recreational on one side and medical on the other. Went there yesterday and the recreational side had a line longer that the last ten times I’d been there combined. The medical side, was … essentially one checkout per customer. So, yea, separating them out will not cause medical customers to have to wait in a long line.
Other random thing: Nevada banned lotteries. Which makes sense, cuz I'm sure that would cut into Vegas' pockets, but I'm annoyed I'll have to drive all the way to the California half of Verdi for the next big Powerball lotto.
how does that work? here we've got the THC/CBD numbers on the packaging from certified growers-although I've been utilizing a First Nations owned shop because their price:quality is pretty decent ($60/oz for a 22% thc indica)
I'm honestly not too sure about the ins and outs on that. I bought my card six months before it became legal and never renewed it
BTW totally late congrats as I finally spotted this. Don't let anyone tell you I am quick or perceptive.
So I went to the DMV on Wednesday and I was blown away by the fact that this was larger than the ones in San Diego AND came with a snack bar
