    kinda close but no:

    Conservatism exists to serve the Predator Class and always has, but most focused since 1930 or so. Over time the Oligarchs in that group realized the power of inflaming the more unstable among us via the propaganda of anger/fear, which in turn is most easily done via reactionary religion.

    Thus they eventually co-oped a religious army of foot soldiers - give them the space to set up their desired theocracy and in return, they defend the interests of the oligarchs. Everything (seemingly) else is all in service to those twin goals.
