Hope there's some kind of twist to this, like the movie ends up flopping, or they realise the absurdity of being 50 years old and trying to live their lives like they're 20. Trailer makes it look very HEY REMEMBER THIS LINE.
"HEY REMEMBER THIS LINE" yep-nailed it. not looking particularly inspired in it's conception, but I'd watch Rosario Dawson read the phone book...
Yeah, the trailer didn't excite me like Clerks 2 or even the Jay and Silent Bob:Reboot, but I love Rosario Dawson and it's always good to see Jay and Silent Bob. Also, it's rated R so there might be some potentially good stuff.
After seeing the trailer I am doubling down on post 5. At the very least I would only pirate something that is designed to make me feel that old. I am not giving any money for that.
Okay, so flashback to 1994. MTV is hyping the shit out of Clerks, and they're constantly showing clips of Jay & Silent Bob doing their schtick. I'm looking at those clips thinking, "Yeah, I know where this is going, stupid stoner shit just glorifies Spicoli types. (Fun fact: Sean Penn beat Madonna repeatedly and tied her to a chair for hours.) Not really something I'm interested in. Two years later, I'm working third shift in a Stop-N-Rob and folks are saying to me, "Have you seen Clerks? You're just like Randal!" I'm like, "WTF is Randal? That was the movie with Jay and Silent Bob. I never saw anything about a Randal character." So, I watched it, just so I could tell people that I'd seen it and I wasn't Randal. And I had to admit that I was pretty much like Randal. I won't say that I know where Smith is going with this, but I can point to a way that he could go with this and it wouldn't suck. A whole lotta people, across all ages, are suckers for nostalgia films. You know, they give this idealized version of the past, while glossing over shitty things that were hallmarks of that era. It's entirely possible that Smith has decided he's going to set up folks into thinking that they're going to get a nostalgia picture, only to whack them over the head with the idea that, no, a lot of shit in the 90s actually sucked. Don't know, but if does do that, then the film will be worth watching.
A lot of reviews aren't particularly good. Many of them say the film is for Smith devotees only, and that general audiences won't like it.
I mean, who's going to see the third Clerks movie if they're not already a fan of the first two? Anyway, saw it last night The walk-in freezer does get described as "Hoth cold," and someone does angrily say "Well played... Clerks," but other than that? It shat all over the legacy of the first two, worse than the first season of Picard shat all over TNG. Oh, and the cinematography seemed much lazier than either of the first two. So many static shots of someone (usually the same one note character) standing at the counter directly addressing Dante and Randall. And too much Elias. They made him the Jar Jar of the franchise, but not in the sexy way. There was one brief sideways glance near the end of the movie that teased the movie I'dmich rather have been watching.
