1) NO After Action Review of an event where one of their two primary responsibilities was close to being killed by a mob? 2) The nation’s premier cybersecurity agency (goes back to origins in Treasury Department and original mission of combating counterfeiting - they are responsible for protecting our financial and other critical infrastructure) ‘forgot’ to backup their data (as required by Federal Law) before migrating systems and just happened to lose all messages from Jan 5 & 6? Pence refusing to get in the car makes a lot more sense now.
So, six years later, the Secret Service actually did what all the Republicans were accusing Hillary of doing.
I read an article back during the Portland disappearances and other crazy abuses. Pretty sure I posted it. Jist of it was that DHS has no institutional culture to provide guardrails. DOJ/FBI not only have decades of various regulations and policies but people who have spent decades living them. DHS under Bush had pretty much free reign because terrorism. Then Obama pretty much neglected them because he didn’t want to be seen as soft on terrorism/border/etc. So you have a Department with little congressional oversight, little regulation and policy no institutional culture which is a recipe for abuse by an executive that has no scruples. Thus CBP deputizing Academi contractors to throw protesters in unmarked minivans. And a Secret Service that acts like a Praetorian Guard. And a Department willing to follow orders of someone who couldn’t even qualify to be an Acting Secretary but whose actual title was ‘Senior Official Performing the Duties of’ which a Bush appointed federal judge ruled was not legal.
Okay, maybe it wasn’t an article but a podcast. Or maybe the first hit on my search wasn’t what I was thinking of. Will relisten and report back.
