Tate being brought down by Greta Thunberg was not how I thought this saga would end.
I didn't even envision that crossover possibility. :soma:
It'd be like finding out Spider-Gwen beat Lex Luthor.
You're like..."wait, what, how did that meeting even line up? :chris:".

There's a word for that... something all the right wing bigots have been repeating ad nauseum for the last couple of years ...hang on, it'll come to me.

(and that's to say nothing of one of Qanon's favorite words applying as well)

So the Romanian authorities are now saying they used other means and the pizza box wasn't much if any influence - and some commenters are saying "yes it was funny but we should be sticklers for getting it right and not spreading a falsehood" and which...

YES, it's proper to acknowledge that detail might have been fuzzy when that is the most factual account.

BUT I'll also argue that the VITAL details should be right (such as what charges he was arrested on, for example) and the fringy details like the idea he doxxed himself...? Meh. Let us have our fun, it costs nothing.

I have to say, as a troll she caused him to fuck his own ass up to get her attention. I am not sure how she had trolled him to such an extreme he rage exposed himself to the authorities just to respond to her, but that was one awesome troll move.

From one troll princess to another I have to give her some huge props for pissing everyone off and causing her enemies to off themselves.

would it be that hard? Just the lettering on the box should give it away, being written in Romanian and all.

apparently there are 20-25 locations in the entire country, almost all of them within Bucharest.

no idea what sort of probable cause the cop there would need to demand customer info from the order centre, if they didn't happily cooperate in the first place. Point is they'd not only know his address pretty quick, but if he's a shit tipper.

How would they know? If you’re on the lam, I doubt you’re ordering pizza under your own name. Certainly having only 25 locations to check helps. Why would there be a central ordering system?

You think that each store handles online orders at each location instead of a centralized server farm that tells each store what to make based on online orders?

As for dude ordering pizza while on the lamb under an assumed name, you really think the guy’s that smart? Even if you accept the official police story that it was other things in the video that enabled them to find him, the fact that a wanted individual was arrested because they posted a video on social media indicates we’re not exactly dealing with a master criminal. So, no, I would not at all be surprised to find out that he used his real name when ordering the pizza.

online order using a credit card? how many orders within the preceding day or two were paid for with foreign credit cards? probably a dozen ways they can eliminate 95% of the orders that weren't him and a dozen more that'd stand out...

no idea about where you live, but like Tucker says, a) why wouldn't they have a call centre/server farm? and b) dude's a little on the arrogant side already, so being sloppy (if he was even aware of the warrants?) doesn't seem liek a stretch.

It's possible. The cops deny it was the pizza. I guess I just usually call in my pizza orders, which are not handled centrally, even for giant chain pizza, rather than ordering them online. It's pretty weird that for all the time he was there, he only got sloppy this once, so I'm inclined to believe the police that the pizza had little to nothing to do with it.

ACAB = they're a bunch of liars and bastards. We laugh about the pizza box, because it shows that it wasn't exactly crack detective work that led to him getting busted. Police might be inclined to lie about how they busted him precisely because it wasn't crack detective work that led to him getting busted. Additionally, if it was the pizza box that got him busted in the video, you might not want to advertise that too loudly so that you can snag other folks who are stupid enough to have a pizza box in their videos.

The economics of how pizza joints operate in Romania are certainly different than how they are in the US. I don't know what their child labor laws are like there, or really much of anything, but given what we do know, there's absolutely going to be some differences between the US and Romania.

Pizza joints in the US started springing up after WWII because of immigration and vets returning from WWII. Romania was behind the Iron Curtain from the end of WWII until communism fell in the 90s, can't imagine that too many pizza joints opened in Romania between the years of 1945 - 1989. Might have happened, don't know. Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. According to this, Jerry's Pizza opened in the early 90s and is owned by an American businessman.

I don't think that it's outside of the realm of speculation that the guy showed up in Romania, discovered that pizza places weren't really a thing, and started a chain. Assuming that he walked into a market with almost no competition (so the potential for profits to be high is large), and that he wanted to ensure that he was able to maintain his lead over others, I can well see him pulling from a number of different industries to ensure that he maintained his edge over others.

So, a centralized call center to handle all the orders makes sense. You don't have to have any staff in your store dealing with phone orders, they can work on prepping the food, and dealing with customers in meatspace. You can also standardize training better than you could if each individual store did it. Not to mention, if you go in expecting your operation to be a large chain, even if you're only opening one store, you might very well choose to do things differently in the beginning than someone who just opens up a pizza joint that later becomes so successful that they think about franchising it.

Supposedly, what the video did was provide proof that both Tates were in the same place in Romania. Okay, but these guys aren't petty crooks. They're human traffickers. So long as just one of them is walking free, shit's going to be bad for people. Are you worried that if you arrest one, the other one will kill himself before you can get him? Not seeing the problem. If you take human trafficking seriously, then you want these guys off the streets ASAP, and if you can only get one today, that's better than nothing.

Apparently it DOES in theory, but they say they had already known based on other indicators.
