It’s not a sequel, prequel, remake or offshoot of an existing franchise. Obviously a movie can be based off of a book and have absolutely little in common with the book or it could be a faithful adaptation so yeah it’s not 100% original, but close enough. There aren’t many mainstream directors left that do 100% original movies.
