You don't have to win the game if you can make it expensive enough that your opponent won't play it.

Spoken like someone lacking the imagination to exist without fucking over people for personal gain. By the way, please point me in the direction of the post in which you shared your imagined version of heaven. It appears I missed it.

What fucking over? What personal gain? I think people should have the capability to resist tyranny...as our Founders did.
I'm not sure why that matters and, to be clear, I don't believe in any kind of afterlife (heaven, hell, or otherwise), but if I imagine heaven, it's much like the popular conception: a place where our spiritual essences go after our demise, sometimes conditioned on how moral or religiously observant we were during our lives, where we're reunited with deceased love ones, commune with God/Jesus/whatever, and live forever in eternal bliss. In other words, a complete fantasy.

So, again, just because something can be imagined, doesn't mean it can exist. I can imagine Superman flying. I can imagine time travel. I can imagine a Jedi lifting a spaceship with the Force. YOU can imagine a utopian society where somehow policies benefit everyone and no one is tempted by power.

Lest we forget, Paladin has been skulking in the less-occupied sections of a web forum for months because a bunch of his fellow travellers tried to "resist tyranny", failed miserably and are now on trial for a range of charges up to and including seditious conspiracy against the USA. His kids aren't gonna need guns to resist a genuine tyrant, but smarts. If only all those books hadn't been banned by the people he cheers for.

That’s my point. Your imagined “heaven” is based on someone else’s imagination. So, my original statement, that you lack the capacity to imagine an alternate economic system, is still valid.

You didn’t imagine Superman flying. Someone else came up with the concept and you accept it. That is not the same thing as imagining it yourself.

Well, this has taken a turn for the absurd.

If by imagine, you mean "think up, invent," then, yes. I not only can do this, I do it routinely and--this part is important--then make my ideas reality. It's literally how I warn my living.

And I'd wager I'm as imaginative as anyone here: I have art and short stories posted on this very site.

I'll grant you that the Branch Davidians underestimated the government's willingness to burn children to death. But four ATF agents were killed in the siege.

Honest question: what's it like to live with that kind of paranoia, day after day?

(Sadly, you may not even realize how completely paranoid you come across when you talk about the concepts of "freedom" and "tyranny".)

kinda discounts the notion that one can make it expensive enough for the "opponent" to not play, no?

and looking up "armed standoffs in the US" seems to suggest that those claiming to be fighting tyranny are in fact themselves, looking to become tyrants-or at least subvert democracy/enfranchisement.

perhaps not so shockingly, it's usually a well regulated militia that is called to respond.

nothing ever said you have the right to keep those arms at home anyway...

While the government response at Waco was heavy-handed, I did not claim it was tyrannical. You brought it up. I only pointed out that four ATF agents were killed in the assault.
I don't claim that any of these reflect actual tyranny.
No, it's local, state, or federal law enforcement that responds.
Other than the plain text of the 2nd and multiple Supreme Court rulings, two centuries of tradition, everyday understanding, etc.

I'm not paranoid. I don't think they're coming to get me.

But, just in the last few years, we've seen large-scale urban unrest, breakdowns in social order after natural disasters, and, so I am told, an insurrection that threatened our very democracy.
I know some will take it that way. I don't really care.

you were talking about the"opponent", which in this context is a claim of an overreaching government. clearly, they'll pay the all the blood and treasure it takes, even if it means rolling up in a couple of APCs.

you're unregulated... that alone fails to measure up... tradition and popular understanding is irrelevant.

we've seen unregulated militias in the past... none of them has ever been interested in increasing democratic rights for others, let alone themselves.

Multiply Waco by a million, and that's what a tyrannical government would face. But we'll see when we see.
First, I am hardly unregulated (and, I would argue, already unconstitutionally so, but that's still being decided). Two, "regulated" in the context of the 2nd doesn't mean "controlled with government policy." This is not my opinion; this has been ruled on by the Supreme Court. Third, history and tradition are very important because they figure into the test imposed by the Bruen case.
Well, this one is. And it's been used before, in the Whiskey Rebellion.

it's adorable that you think enough cats can be herded in that same direction.

and no dude, you aren't a militia of one... otherwise, not seeing what the Whiskey Rebellion has to do with freedom or rights other than stealing more native lands?

going back to "future generations"... it seems pretty clear.

They aren't terrified of an imaginary tyranny overtaking what's already (and has always been) one of the least free nations in the freedom loving "first world".

They are however, rightly disturbed by things like having the highest murder and rape rates of that grouping. Your suicide and unintentional deaths take a spike next to them too.

There is no valid reason for the 2A... hasn't been since National Guards were legislated.

That your inerpretation still stands only serves to reveal how poorly the country is designed... and perhaps what a potentila menace you present to others (given that whiskey rebellion gambit-I dunno. not sure what relevance you were trying to convey other than once again not taking responsibility for the bill)

And with all that imagination, you can’t imagine and alternate economic system? IIRC, in the past, you’ve also stated your college education included several economic courses, if that’s the case, you should be more capable of imaging an alternate economic system than I am.

The US government will never run out of military money to fight you with your pea shooter. They have AI drones who could ram themselves up your worthless ass and kill you by colon bleed out. The only thing your gun is good for is a quick exit from this mortal realm when they come for you.

How dare you not recognize the divine right of the US. The founding fathers of this nation were perfect and wrote down god's law straight from white jesus' mouth. @Lanzman and his godly guns are not amused by your insolence. Guns are a gift of god to all people as long as they are white and american males, and they are a right to existence, which is why they magically appear in the Uterus when all of us white boys are born.

You make it seem like there was some time before guns and america which is simply the fantasy of some foreign god hating moralfag. @Paladin would come up there and kick your ass if you were not hiding in some secret place like Toronto that no human can find.

America is perfect and they have never been a danger to other people that mattered. It is not like we perfected racial slavery, pollute the planet with our unregulated consumerism, killed more innocents than cancer, and make english colonialism look like a pleasant day at the beach.

How dare you accept history and what your eyes can see over the feelings of two dickless WF racist asswipes that would leave a ted nugent size brown streak if the government ever came for them.

    I don't think you're understanding my point.

I can imagine anything. Imagination is not difficult. Imagination costs nothing.

But imagining something you want is the easy part. It's figuring out how to get it and doing the work to make it a reality that are the real work.

And if you don't do those last two things, the first thing is just daydreaming or wishful thinking.

If you don't know how to make it a reality, you can't work to bring it about.
