    ?
What happened to all the posts from 2003-2007? Are these lost to time?

In the FAQ it would be nice if someone summarized the origins of WF. The cool ones are aware but not the rest of us hoi polloi that were not trekkers in some former incarnation.

Allow new posts for "remember when..." type posts.

That would be useful ... though I don't know who's going to write it.

I am pretty sure that I have the original "Is it time to secede from TNZ?" TrekBBS thread saved on some hard drive somewhere.

It would also be fun to have a list of all the WF ongoing gags and their origins, such as:
    • Attack otters of the ass
    • Other things of the ass
    • Attack otters of the ass in submarines
    • _______ would have loved this thread

I wish we had those old threads simply because I would like to go back and see what my 22 year old self was posting about. Almost like a diary from 20 years ago.

The earliest thread I can clearly remember starting on WF was about Elder Scrolls Morrowind, which I was playing heavily the year after I finished undergrad but before I started my grad program.

30 something me was comparatively bitter and self centred. I don't mind that guy being lost to the bottom of the interwebz.

    He had great hair though.

Xenforo's search engine is shit unless you're willing to pay extra for a better search engine, so fuck them with an extra large sandpaper dildo for that.
That said, the threads exist, it's just there's no way to get to them because Xenforo's a goddamned pile of shit and I hate it.

Well, no, that's not the reason, but going all the way back is difficult thanks to the horrible search engine, because the default is 200 posts, and there is no advanced search that lets you choose specific dates other than "later than" as an option.

So for a trip down memory lane, you'll need to go here:

Of the ass was making fun of my past homophobic teenage self.
Back when homophobia was normalized, it was diabolically important that you not get a penis in your ass, because that was the point of no return for gay.
Like a vampire bite victim wasn't a vampire themselves until they drank first blood.
So bi-curious, okay, but gay OF THE ASS, well, then it's terminal.

Then other things started to become of the ass.

How otters got in there, I don't know.

    ____would have loved this thread.
I started that about Ted, because before he was run off for being creepy with the female members, he started a jillion cop-hating threads.
Like, not ACAB stuff of bad cops, just "fuck the police!!" with no context.
So, an ACAB thread (before it was called that) got started without him, and I said "Ted would have loved this thread " like he was dead, and this was a memorial.
Then it very quickly mutated into "Ted would have loved this thread" for sexual deviancy, then it became other people who would have loved the thread.

Those are the two I was involved with.

I think "it's important!" was a Maud Dib thing, and it maybe started in the White Room.

It seems odd when I go to the last page when threads are in the default order that Jan 2007 is the oldest. Not doing a search. But I understand if the default display is just a default search for "all threads".

Maybe there's a work-around where you could move threads for a given era to an archive or subforum?

I honestly don't know why they stop at 2007. We have several archive threads from 2004 that still exist, including the Wordforge Quotes thread, and the In Memoriam thread.

    http://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/wordforge-quotes.101/
    http://www.wordforge.net/index.php?threads/in-memoriam.246/

It's like the software gets about halfway there and then says "fuck it."

An otter pops out of the toilet in "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective".

wasn't there some space otter meme. with conveyor belts? I think it had to do with submarines and either Dayton or FF were involved.

See, without a proper IAQ section all these nuggets are lost to time.

Wasn't there some scandal between Eccentric and PBM?

    pretty sure it was this:

"of the ass" was based on ass cancer

someone suggested submarines as spacecraft after watching SBS Yamamoto or something

conveyor belts was about an airplane taking off from one, and if it could be done.

Eccentric did have an online drama with one of the women who used to post here, but I don't think it was PBM. I wanna say Shakes, but it wasn't her either-just a similar personality type.

Space submarines and conveyor belts was courtesy of Midnight Funeral.
The attack otters of the ass were later incorporated into the space subs, courtesy of @Amaris' Adventures of Captain Otter credit rolls (and where I discovered Two Steps from Hell )

They were funny and cool. I agree, doing video projects for fandom was always a work of love. I remember my first AMV. I had to build the computer to be able to use premeir 4, and learn how to rip DVD video into a useable form. Then making micro timing changes to synch up music to video without real time rendering sucked.

I tried to edit AMVs on a dual deck floating head VCR like they did in the old days and those old geeks were amazing with what they could do with that tech. digital editing is so much easier and what you can do today with a home system blows me away.

I remember what me 41 year old self was posting and....ugh.

I once went back and looked at what I was posting on a forum associated with a (quite cool actually) radio preacher that I liked and...

God that dude was an asshole. Not quite as bad here but still.
