Sucker Punch should just be left to rot where it was. It was really just soft core porn to begin with.

“I’ve never gotten around to doing the director’s cut. I still plan to at some point. But in the original ending when Babydoll is in the chair in the basement with Blue [Oscar Isaac] — she’s already been lobotomized — when the cop shines the light on her, the set breaks apart and she stands up and she sings a song on stage,” the director explained, continuing: “She sings, ‘Ooh, Child, things are gonna get easier.’ Blondie [Vanessa Hudgens], and all the people that have been killed, join in and it’s the idea that in a weird way, even though she’s lobotomized, she’s kind of stuck in this infinite loop of euphoric victory. It’s weirdly not optimistic and optimistic at the same time. That’s kind of what the tone was at the end. We tested it and the studio thought it was too weird, so we changed it.”

I think I'm slightly dumber for having read that. :(

Since I have a degree in psychology, I loved Sucker Punch. It's a fascinating look at how the mind works when under stress.

sucker punch is not a case study. It is a work of fiction that might take an actual phenomenon and work it into pure fantasy.

Sure, you watched Sucker Punch for the plot and the psychology. :garamet:

Sucker Punch was Snyder wanting to create a bunch of pin-up anime style fetish art for his own personal use, but since no one would fund that, he agreed to also film a movie at the same time. :async:

I don’t know why i seem to be alone in this, but I really like Zack Snyder movies. Watchmen, 300, Sucker Punch, BvS, Man of Steel… all of them.

Can’t say I was looking for a re-do on this…. But I’d check it out… and not for nothing, I didn’t find any of the women in this movie particularly sexually attractive. They were cute, IMHO, but not sexy. Not my type, I guess.

I liked some of his movies a lot. Sucker Punch undermines itself completely. On one hand it could be a dark gritty drama about the abuses of the psychology system and male dominated corruption and sexual abuse of girls. That is until ever few minutes you get interrupted by a scene of ultraviolent bullshit set to music that tries to pretend the girls have some power by exploiting themselves.

OTOH you have some nice action scenes which have no real connection aside from that they are there to keep the audience from thinking about how Baby Doll and the other girls are throwing themselves sexually at their rapists. When you have gone so far on the other side of really being gross and sinister in representing the real world, blocking the audience view with some poorly assiciated imaginary action just puts some juvenile action in the wrong place.

I get the message and the reason for the method, but in the end it just ends up looking like you are censoring out the porn moments with some gratuitous violence.

Was it just me or was Snyder much better at being homoerotic with 300 mixing the war bromance with toxic masculinity than he was with making fetishy goth girl female empowerment through sexy violent dance?

I still don't think Snyder has the right mindset for the DC universe, but I've enjoyed everything else of his. If nothing else he knows how to create a style.

I'd love to see him take on some of the edgier or weirder Marvel material. I bet a Snyder directed Marvel 2099 movie would look amazing.
