As a music person I have come around to taylor swift. she is sort of Billy Joel like in her songwriting. She is not super complicated, she makes songs that speak to basic life, and she is catchy as fuck. She is not cutting edge defining creatively, but she makes good songs, she sings really well, she performs in some great and varied ways. I would go to one of her concerts and have a good time. People shit on some pop for being too cookie cutter, but sometimes cookies are fucking awesome even if they are not the most radical cookies ever. I am just going to stay out of the way of her fanbase. I get her fanbase too because tourists need to stay the fuck away from Billy Joel concerts. Even to this day I would have to bust my ass for Billy tickets and then sit there with a bunch of half assed fans who cannot even get the words to piano man right. It is the only fucking song you know of his, and you cannot sing the right words, what the fuck is wrong with you? If I had tickets to tailor swift I would just know there is some girl crying because she could not get some and she is so much more of a fan than I am. That is just too much guilt.
Now I want a Billy Joel Elton John Taylor Swift collab. Mainly because some of the record labels would have aneurysms.
Taytay is a big Don Henley fan, I know that, so you could probably talk her into at least collabing with him.
Isn’t she a country music singer? Please forgive my lack of pop culture. My music preferences are stuck in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. https://neurosciencenews.com/music-youth-17765/
She's a "country music" singer in the modern country/pop era. This isn't Willie, Waylon and the boys and it sure ain't no Hank.
I had actually forgotten what she sounded like, so I dug up this video. It's as weird as a Peter Gabriel video, and she wrote it, so...coool!
It makes sense to transition out of the country sphere as it is a limited bubble. She no longer limits herself to the singular country style. Country is popular, but it is a limiting style, and it turns a lot of people off more than a pop sound does. Not to mention if you are a country singer you have to always sing about certain white country subjects. If you do not put a god, guns, beer, and 'merika song on every fucking album you should just transition already because you are on the border of angering the main part of the fanbase. Gone are the days where Dolly could be a star in country without being lynched as way too woke.
She really hasn't had a country sound in a while. The late aughts/early '10s songs like "Teardrops on My Guitar" and "Mean" had some twang and straddled the country/pop border, but from "Shake It Off" onward, she's been pretty squarely in the middle of mainstream pop (which is, admittedly, a somewhat meaningless statement in that she has been one of the primary artists defining mainstream pop during that time).
Ah. That’s why I don’t know her. Female artists with singing voices I like include Pat Benatar, Stevie Nix, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Eartha Kitt (sp?), Annie Lennox (although, I may like her more for her attitude than her voice - same with Sinead). I even like some of Alanis Morrisette’s songs. But, high-pitched, junior high chorus voices tend to grate on my nerves.
I just would like it recognized that I resisted the impulse to do the obvious skit of.... "The wish is granted!!!" Taylor Swift- *Sucks it* WAB- Ohhhh!!! Ohhh!! Ohh!! Oh, Taylor!!! Oh my fucking God!!! *Leg twitches, toes curl* Oh, holy fucking shit!! Ohhh!!!! Oh, Taylor my darling!! You're an angel!! An angel!! Oh my Gaaawwd!!! Aeeaauurarrggh!!!! ...I could have done that. But I didn't. I think that shows a lot of personal growth, and I'd like a medal, thank you very much.
There are a few Taylor Swift songs I like, but I don't really listen to her that often. She's pretty damn talented, but I'm not gonna go to one of her concerts. Y'all just a bunch of Kanye's.
Beware getting what you wish for. The wishmaster might very well grant the wish of having taylor swift suck WAB right after my wish to be Taylor for a day just to try on all her dresses is granted. Yes, I would gargle down some wab sauce to play dress up as Taylor Swift for a day.
Caught her Eras tour on Amazon, and it was pretty goddamn impressive. Three hours of her performing, and a lot of really cool production values, set design, costume changes, etc. I definitely would have hated going to her concert in person because I am old and I only recognized like four songs and one Era, but holy shit is she talented.
