There's a lot of woods around where this guy lives, but it's not like a place where you can get lost for years (unless you're really stupid or really good at hiding). If anything, some hunters are going to get a rude surprise if he's in there. Makes me think that's what he wanted people to believe--that he's in the woods--but he actually took off for Mass or some other place. My main concern is where he might strike next, and how he's going to go out. He must know he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting away with this.

It is almost like guns are proven to make things more deadly. I am wondering if that is due to the purpose of a gun as a tool to make killing much quicker and easier.

NO. You're hiding in your homes because your institutions failed to keep hold of a violent psychopath they already fucking had in custody.

It would be interesting to determine on which grounds they could have held him in custody. Probably could have gotten him for terrorizing regarding the threat to shoot up the army base. But for how long? Not forever. On a psychiatric level, they wouldn't have a reason to hold him once doctors believed him stable (and he might have been able to fake that, although I don't have a great deal of faith in psychiatric providers here in this state). So once this guy got free of whatever custody you think he should have been in--and I can't disagree with that--he STILL would have found a way to get a gun and kill people. So while I'm certainly willing to throw blame on the institutions, guns are a fucking problem. I don't want to take anyone's property from them, but this country is awash in firearms. What do we do? Throw up our hands and say welp, that's the cost of living in a free society? Small comfort when it's your kid or loved one that's being buried.

We hold our population to a higher standard and isolate those who don't live up to it.

We do NOT adjust the whole of society to the lowest common denominator.
