I know the initial reports are saying no drugs recovered at the scene but they are also saying no foul play so having a hard time figuring out how a grown man drowns in a jacuzzi if you aren’t blasted out of your gourd and just slip away.

His heart stopped for five minutes back in 2020/2021, that's probably not great for anyone long-term. :chris:

Also when I was out of shape and eating poorly in my early 20s, spending time in a hot tub used to fuck me up hard from dehydration and electrolyte fuckery.

    What @14thDoctor said.

Sitting alone in a jacuzzi if you have a heart condition is a bad idea.

Jacuzzi's are dangerous to use alone because you can easily pass out from the heat or dehydration and drowning occurs pretty quick. People die this way all the time. It is one of the big things they warn you about when buying one. You are talking about around 120 degrees for the water. Sometimes the water can heat up even hotter. You are not supposed to spend more than twenty minutes in it at a time, and if you only get out on the edge you are not letting your body cool down especially if it is indoors.

Also, can we all just admit that Friends fucking sucked?

It's easily one of the most overrated American television series of all time. And to anyone who wants to debate this point, I get that the show was extremely popular. But just remember that this is also the country where 75-million people voted for Donald J. Trump.

Anyway, they just did some dumbass reunion last year (or was it the year before?) and ten bucks says they'll now milk Perry's death to do a memorial episode or some such thing. :sigh:

I've seen bits and pieces of it but have never watched a full episode because it didn't interest me. Looked dumb even at the time.

Of course there are many, many popular teevee shows and movies that "everybody" has seen...except for me.

It was more than dumb, stupid would be complimenting the show. When the last episode aired, the girl I was dating at the time made a big production out of the last episode. Snacks, drinks, etc... I fell asleep not even five minutes in. Nothing new, pretty much would drift off for each episode. She woke me up by asking what I thought, she didn't realize I fell asleep. I said it was stupid and was glad it was over. She didn't talk to me for a few days. Even better.

In 2023 people watch it because it's bland and familiar and comforting like oatmeal, but in 1994 people watched it because it was the horniest show on mainstream tv at the time. :async:

Let me guess, William Shatner found the body and swears he had nothing to do with it ending up in the hot tub.

Hot tubs generally don't go above 104 degrees. For water that gets to 120 degrees, you're thinking of a hot water heater, and that would not be comfortable to submerge oneself in (and it would cause serious burns after a matter of minutes).

It was a long time ago that my family had a hot tub. I remember it being around 120 but I could be wrong. I know it was over 106 because that was the temp a fever is supposed to be fatal, and that was how my parents explained it. This may be a difference between public hot tubs and home hot tubs also. I would imagine a business would not be allowed to ramp up the heat like you could at home for insurance reasons. Perry's hot tub was probably his private unit, but I have no actual idea.

I mean, maybe there was a way to overclock it so the hot tub could get above 104. But Federal regulations have prohibited selling hot tubs that can exceed 104 degrees for over 40 years now. Even for private residential hot tubs.

This isn't a hot tub situation, but when I had a plumber come and look at a handful of issues and asked him about getting the shower to go hotter, he said "I'm not allowed to set it any hotter than this, but I'll be happy to show you which lever adjusts the hot water flow, and after that what you do is your own business."

I am there just a few years early. There is a reason the pool and jacuzzi cleaner is on emergency call at the over 55 communities. Don't worry, the emergency shit comes for most of us at some point, and you too will be watching what you eat someday or else this will be you.

Assholes are like sith jedi, eventually they betray us all.

Just an added bonus if perry died in the tub, then his asshole muscles probably lost control and the poop escaped. We don't pucker long after death from what I have heard.

You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life.

Friends premiered in 1994, when most sitcoms were about families or older adults. Home Improvement, Roseanne, Frasier, Murphy Brown, Dave's World, The Nanny, Full House, Family Matters... Seinfeld was a show about horny youngish adults, but the men were all gross and Elaine was more like one of the guys. Then Friends comes along, and it's all about six attractive and often scantily clad young people trying to get laid. All the discourse around the show boiled down to "which one are you most like" and "which one do you want to fuck the most?" And Jennifer Aniston always had rock hard nipples, which was revolutionary at the time. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer letting her bra straps show frequently in 1997 was similarly groundbreaking, as was Murphy Brown getting pregnant out of wedlock in 1991.)

I know it seems tame now, especially in 2023 with devices that let you watch hardcore pornography in everyone's pockets, but in the far more puritanish 1990's it was a much bigger deal.

(This was also a decade where Simpsons merch was banned from schools because Bart was such a bad influence, and South Park only aired in Canada after midnight on Fridays. People were uptight.)

Friends suffers, in a way, from the Oklahoma! effect.

Today, "this ain't Oklahoma!" is what somebody will say if they want to get across that a show is cutting-edge, edgy, or innovative. Oklahoma! has become a synonym for old, hoary and hackneyed musicals. But people forget that the reason it seems like such a cliched example of the genre today is that, 80 years ago, it helped define the genre.

In the '80s and early '90s, TV was full of family and workplace sitcoms. Friends was neither, and it probably became the most visible TV example of the concept of "found family." It was arguably the first show to demonstrate that the premise didn't really matter if you had strong cast chemistry. Because there was no lead character and the cast made sure to keep it that way (all six insisted on nominating themselves for awards in the "best supporting actor" category for years, then all switched to "best lead actor" at the same time), it paved the way for future ensemble shows. It lacked the narrative cleverness of later shows like How I Met Your Mother or Coupling, but it's also probably the reason those shows were able to exist.

And it came along at just the right time to give voice to a very Generation X sense of aimlessness and ennui, encapsulated in the theme song's lyrics, which helped make it the defining pop-culture work of its decade.
