*Persian Gulf oil needs prices to be about $15/b to break even. American shale is in the $60-$70/b so if they can drive prices down low enough they can cut future American production giving them larger market share.

**This is a complicated metric for many folks to understand as we are the largest refiner of petrochems in the world. There is a lot of oil that we ‘import’ then refine and then sell it back to the country we imported it from. For example lot of Mexico’s and almost all of Venezuala’s oil is refined in US Gulf Coast refineries calibrated to handle the high sulpher content.
