I think people usually cite Seven of Nine and Jadzia Dax as the biggest examples of Rick Berman using 90s Trek to film his preferred sort of wank material, but the whole thing where the hot scary Latina gets tamed and wifed by the most generic whitebread 90's dude in the quadrant is another great example. Also see Enterprise, where the hot smart aloof foreign chick can't resist the smelly charm of the George W. Bush analog.
I forgot about that episode, and that definitely explains the LD joke about the Caitians hunting them for sport in the past
Y'know, it still rives me crazy. Why are Picard's giant harddrive chips out in open air like that where anyone can spill coffee on them, or knock them down with an accidental hand gesture? They should either slide into a slot, or have a popup thing like a VHS head, or a pop out thing like a DVD drawer. Or else, they should be wrapped in a plastic shell, and have a big USB at the end that stabs into the desk.
Cardassian optolythic data rods were so sturdy they could survive the ship they were getting blowing up and still be readable. Data storage devices are sturdier in the future.
Yeah, come to think of it, Voyager's memory core could survive into the Kelvin range of hot and cold.
Oh, a top-loader. We actually had a couple of Betamax top-loading VCRs. My first teevee job even had top-loading U-Matic VTRs. I was confused because you said "head", which is inside (the round silver object visible through the holes in the tape carriage) and didn't know what you meant.
If Sisko’s mom was a wormhole alien , then why didn’t the other wormhole aliens know about him in “Emissary” and why did they act as if it was the first time they had interacted with non-coporial beings?
Also, they quit making top-loading tape machines for all formats because they tended to break more often than front-loaders. The gears and other parts of the tape mechanism would wear out.
On the bonus interviews for "Star Trek: Fan Collective: Captain's Log" Kate Mulgrew said "I think she hopped right on another ship, and did it all over again. I think she's one of those". She predicted right. It's Prodigy.
"Think Tank". What, there's no subspace Angie's List? How does word not get around "hey, don't do business with the Think Tank; they're extorting shitsuckers"?
Later in the episode, an alien says they're infamous. Well...why do people go to them then? But then...why do people go to loan sharks?
