This trailer didn’t elite me as the the other ones and it’s still a year away, but I still plan on watching it. On P+.
Alright!! It's time to start spinning up the hype train on this one! CHOOO-CHOOO MOTHERFU**ER!! Some things I noticed from the trailer... The guy speaking to Ethan in the beginning of the trailer was an IMF agent that betrayed Ethan in the very first Mission Impossible movie in 1996, IIRC. He's supposed to be dead. If my memory holds true, this is a huge spoiler they gave away off the top. Hopefully, this means there's a lot more bombshells to this one. Secondly, subsequent trailers seem to show a lot of Hayley Atwell's character and Ethan holding hands. Very little Ilsa Faust. Being the hopelessly monogamous romantic that I am, I'd be really bummed out if something were to happen to Ilsa. But this is Mission Impossible and I'm afraid Ethan is doomed to live a life of solitude and dedication to his objectives. Can't wait!!
Ok… so I watched the first Mission Impossible… and that guy is agent Eugene Kittridge. He suspected Ethan to be a mole and was trying to capture him. He did not die and all is well between him & Ethan at the end. My bad.
Holy SHIT!!! Just came back from the theater and as suspected, this series continues to improve with every iteration. Amazing movie! I will definitely see this again before it leaves theaters. It’s that good. No way this doesn’t win the Summer movie box office. MODS: Just hoping the thread title can be changed to Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1
Well… did anyone else see this movie other than @Tuckerfan and I? I just saw an article come across my newsfeed that said that it looks like this will be the first MI movie to lose money in its box office run. I find that inexplicable. One of the highest rated on Rotten Tomatoes among critics and fans. How the hell did this happen? Sound of Freedom is currently beating it in the box office. Can anyone explain this to me?
I saw it. It was a good flick, but my thoughts are: 1. The fact that it's a cliffhanger might get people not to want to see it now. Might as well wait until just before DR II comes out and see it on Paramount Plus or whatever streaming service it's on by then. 2. By definition, film no.7 in a franchise is going to lose some of its luster. While I would say it's as good as pretty much any of the MI films, nothing it really stands out either. 3. Also, Tom Cruise fatigue.
I saw it opening week in a tiny theater on the Oregon coast. I liked it. Also bummed it's lost money. It wasn't the only cliffhanger. Spiderman Into the Loud Cartoonverse was one. It sucked. Fast and the Furious 3805 is also a part I it appears.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One has grossed over half a billion dollars globally. I can't see it losing money, assuming the film's $290-million budget is divided between Parts One and Two. By contrast, Sound of Freedom has only grossed $175-million and is only playing in the United States. Americans (and especially American media reporters) tend to forget that Hollywood cares a lot more about the global box office than the domestic one. The majority of films would lose money if they relied on domestic theatre goers.
Yes, globally, it’s grossed half a billion but only $161M domestic. That’s behind Sound of Freedom and under its production budget… which I believe may be inflated due to on/off filming during COVID. Maybe the franchise will pivot away from the characters of the last few films after DR II.
I really want to see this, but between Indiana Jones, the Flash and Oppenheimer, I couldn’t drag my ass to another long movie and I like long movies. It the theater experience I can’t take anymore. Maybe now that the kids are back in school I can drag my ass out one more time until Dune comes out.
Never trust Follywood accounting. Remember "Return of the Jedi" lost money according to them. Oh, and while the suits may not publicly tout overseas box office numbers, they absolutely do pay attention to them and produce movies accordingly. Both Steven Segall and Charlie Sheen made oodles of movies that bombed in the US (if they even got much of a release here), which is what the studios expected. They knew that the movies wouldn't do well in the US, but they'd be a huge hit overseas. Charlie Sheen apparently has this massive car collection, that he was able to buy because of the money he made from those movies that were huge hits in China, but we've probably never even heard of, even though they were shot here, by US studios. At least $20 million of that movie's budget was Cruise's paycheck. He's also got a lot of control over the IP, and it really doesn't matter how much money this film brings in, Cruise can easily get the money up to push out more sequels to his Scientology propaganda films.
Your point is correct, but, up until very recently, RotJ was in the red because of all the hush/settlement money the studio paid out to the families of several extras who were eaten by the Ewoks.
Finally saw this. It fucking rocked, excellent movie Also took me to the end to figure out the awesome blond assassin was Mantis from Guardians. She was superb in this
I got my mom the Blu Ray of Part 1 since she's old and uses physical media still. I'll inherit it one day and be rich!
I finally got around to seeing this today. I'd say it's the weakest one since the third one. I think Ghost Protocol is my favorite. I'll say that the action sequences were good and the car chases were a lot better than the ones in Dial of Destiny. The plot revolves around AI basically taking over and in the movie the various intelligence agencies move to analog, I thought this would have been a perfect opportunity to use old school gadgets and spy craft, but they didn't do that. It was more about set pieces and car chases and of course the one big stunt which is fine, but it's also supposed to be a spy movie. Then they brought back Kitridge, but didn't really do much with him. All I can hope is that the next one addresses some of this. I also thought they could have cut about thirty minutes from the movie. Anyway, we'll see what the next one brings.
