This film is definitely an achievement and I enjoyed it thoroughly in IMAX (a rare instance of China running a movie I actually want to see). The three hours went by fast.

When I saw Part 1 in 2021, I was bored and confused, having no familiarity with the universe. Then I spent some time on YouTube having the movie and book explained to me -- this Alt Shift X vid is particularly helpful. Now I am primed to enjoy the sequels, of which there may be a few, based on the many source books.

There's no way they'll ever try to film God Emperor. Although I'd love to see it.

The Sci-Fi Channel ones almost got there.
They got up to Leto II starting to bond with the sandworm larva, so that would have been right next.
We got this > < close to it.

As a trans person I always focussed on the way Paul was sort of Trans powered. The witches, which I am not going to try and spell because I know I cant, had spent a very long time making their powers that were based on bloodlines, aka genetic, limiting their offspring to only be female. This caused a sexist rift where only women had the powers of mind reading and the magic of the voice. It is interestingh how that was kept from the male dominated power structure. Fejmale society used this to manipulate and be powerful.

Paul is not trans female in having a uterus, but in the way the people and society is created he is trans in having the power that was really limited to women, and would give a man huge advantages over other men. There is a very heavy sexism in this whole thing. I am not saying it is a bad thing because this is a work of fiction. This can effect the individual audience members in very different ways. Questions of why can't women become the messiuah that paul became sort of mix in there and show the assumption of god as male by the author.

My personal opinionh on the matter of a creator being male is that creation of new life comes from females with some male input, and therefor god was originally the one with the ability to create offspring and either chose to give that to women, or was female and male was an offshoot option.

It is interesting to see how these authors (multiple in the case of dune and it's interpretations) address this particular thing. The idea is that males have an alternate perception that when combined with the female water of life with the proper individual would awaken the sleeper which is a being of immense power and perception able to fold space and know things, along with killing with a word, and generally being god like. A person who could both master creation and the forces of the universe would be omnipotent in being.

BTWE that is just an interpretation I have come to, and I am just adding it and not saying it is right or the only interpretation out there. It is just that is where this work has inspired my thought.

Saw Dune two and it is not boring. It is also very good at explaining itself for people who are not familiar with the first movie or the story. I went with a friend who was not familiar and I kept wanting to tell him things and then the movie comes along and seems to make sure the audience knows mostly what is going on.

Having not read the book, I can see why people did not like the lynch version. He did not have time to explain things, and took some real liberties with the story. Gurney's character is totally gone in the lynch version, despite being there. Sting is fun as Fade, but not right. For those who do not know the book the lynch version can be an imaginative story all it's own. It is not Dune. Also, it makes much more sense to have a middle eastern cast with Paul being white. It really sets off that Paul is a foreigner to the fremen. In Lynch's version everyone is white, so you do not get how much of an outsider Paul is and how it is so hard for people to see him as the messiah.

I am glad this version took the time with the first movie to keep it pretty boring and do the good introduction to the characters and universe. This was much more grand than the miniseries which gave the war and battle scenes some real punch that the miniseries lacked, but the miniseries has time to bring the detail into this epic story that the new version still seems to have to sacrifice for time.

Worth the price to see in a decent theater.

I'm late but just seen Part 2. Impressive spectacle but I think it probably wasn't as good. Lots of world-building stuff omitted.
