fairly significant interests... and there were something like 65 Canadians on that flight Iran shot down after Trump's little surprise act of war.

as always, the greatest threat to my country is being caught between America and whomever you've picked a fight with this year.

But it's NOT just me is it?

That's the point I'm making, there's not one non American here saying they would, as a voter, support their government in the event of allying with the US against Iran.

    None of us.

Not one British, Irish, Canadian, Australian, German, Swedish, or anything else you could think of, poster has stated they'd want to ally with the US.

That's not just in here, that's the commonplace sentiment around most of NATO and the wider world, we don't want to fight alongside you against a rogue state because you are the rogue state. Hence my saying you don't actually have the allies you once had, because while all those places are democracies our governments answer to the people who elected them.

who said that? Who is ordering Canada around? Canada knows the US will defend them in the unlikely event of an all-out war so we aren't relying on their military for any help (or at least I wouldn't think so) no matter where the US gets involved. Canada can stay under the radar and it won't affect much either way.

    err... no
as little as we concern ourselves about being (further) militarily annexed, the threat has traditionally considered to have been from south of 49th, not over the pole or oceans.

for someone who's seen as much of the world as you claim to, you have a surprisingly limited understanding of perspectives outside of your subdivision.

That goes without saying, but there are a fair few of us to get a feel for how the land lies and we're pretty unanimous.

I say that to illustrate the point but the fact of the matter is the current feeling here is strongly anti US and it seems to me that sentiment is pretty much mirrored across Europe and in Canada. Australia I'm less sure but they have more pressing issues anyway.

In other words I disagree when you claim to still have the same allies you always did. On paper, sure, but if you pulled that mutual defence clause again (which would be pretty hard to stomach under the circumstances) it would be a case of meeting the treaty requirements and nothing more. It wouldn't surprise me if some nations actively questioned the legitimacy of the claim given that you are the aggressors.

maybe... I mean, we've become as reliant on our trade relations with China as we once were with the US.

Still, for the last 200 or so years, the only consistent and demonstrated threat of invasion (along with regular challenges to our arctic territories) has been from the downstairs neighbours.

^China is pretty much worse than actual Nazis (though Nazis never rounded up jewish husbands into camps while sending loyal Germans to bed the wives, so they got that going for them) and you're boasting about your strong trading relations. At least express a shred of shame and opposition.

CCP is a pestilence in its country and the worst malefactor on the planet.

If you're not moving to detachment ("decoupling") from China then you're pretty much enabling. We know too much for China to be treated like just another vile murderous dictatorship.

    umm... lebensborn? Germanization?

dude... you just fucked up a Godwin.

Which'd explain why you also neglect to mention the US continuing to trade with Germany until the end of '41 (and -albeit indirectly- after)

I thought it seemed clear that our financial relationship with the US was diminished, not that trade with China was preferable.

You did: if you've ever had a boss (been employed) then you have had to "mindlessly" follow orders at some point.
So you're comparing Canada to employees and saying employees have to be willing to mindlessly follow orders. The way the Germans did when they fed the Jews and other undesirables to the gas chambers and ovens? You really don't spend much time thinking about what you say, do you?

I am actually more likely to believe the people who live in those countries as opposed to some jingoistic twat in rural GA who thinks he knows everything because he cleaned toilets when in the military. Just sayin.
