Witness grocery stores losing their ever-loving shit over dumpster divers rescuing the perfectly good food they chuck.

I have to imagine that’s at least somewhat for liability reasons. If anyone got food poisoning or injured from doing so, they’d probably have a case against the grocery store unless they took measures to stop them.

I've got an old school, family run green grocer across from me, and an "organic" place next door.

They're all pretty good about green binning the produce for the dumpster shoppers and leaving the last chance stuff still wrapped.

OTOH, the family that owns the country's biggest grocery chain regularly posted pandemic profit INCREASES of over a billion dollars while destroying tonnes of food (after already wasting gods know how much over "presentablity")

poor folks are a lot more amenable to the principle of caveat emptor when it comes to free shit.
